FLX s24 dead after upgrade

Recommended Posts

Hi, I have just done a firmware upgrade to our FLX s24 to 7.9.9.9.  All went ok and the console said it had completed and to turn off the console.  This I did.  Now it wont reboot.

The leds chase across buttons, the screen flashes white for a moment and then nothing else happens.  Leds continue to chase but thats all.

I have show so desperate to get this back up and running.  HELP!

There is a ZerOS Troubleshooting section in the online manual https://zero88.com/manuals/zeros/trouble-shooting which mentions the ZerOS Startup Tool https://zero88.com/manuals/zeros/trouble-shooting/zeros-startup-tool which tells you to Plug in a USB keyboard, and turn your console on. Immediately keep tapping the F1 key. I had to use this once and it worked, Edward told me about it.

Hi @Maryinclaydon

Welcome to the Zero 88 Forum.

Sorry to hear you have had difficulty updating your console. As @DALX suggests, I would recommend using the ZerOS Startup Tool to recover your console.

https://zero88.com/manuals/zeros/trouble-shooting/zeros-startup-tool

Please try this, and let us know how you get on.

Can you make a bootable USB stick with the software on and see if the desk will read from that from a power cycle?

I'd point you to some instructions on how to make a bootable stick but I can't - none of the links I can find in past articles with instructions on how to do this work anymore. 😡

Edward/Jon - seriously chaps this state of affairs with the website needs to be fixed ASAP. The community can't help anyone anymore without your support both directly to the question and getting this damn website sorted so that we can access the resources we need to help users with problems. I'm not talking about ancient stuff here, I'm talking about links posted by Edward within the past 12-18 months.

Sorry, I can't help either - I've just looked through my library and I don't have even an old copy (I think I presumed that software would always be on the website). I've looked in the Solution section too and there's nothing there - the download link takes you to the FLX section.

Hi, I have exactly the same issue on my S48. I have tried launching ZerOStartup Tool to plug my keyboards, but it does not work. I have tried using 3 different keyboards but, they do not work. I tried plugging for each of them to both USB ports of the front and back panels. However, still not. Do you have any tips?

Sorry to hear you have experienced this issue with your console. If you cannot access the ZerOS Start-Up Tool, please email support@zero88.com, confirming this console's serial number, and we will be able to advise. You may find it easiest to email a picture of the console's serial number, to save typing it out manually.

Hi Takuya,

Here are the instructions for creating a bootable USB stick. Hopefully this can help you recover your console:

https://zero88.com/manuals/zeros/software-updates/zeros-usb-creator

Bootable USB sticks CANNOT be used on FLX S consoles. If the ZerOS Start-Up Tool cannot be used, please drop us an email with the serial number.

Rather than searching the forum, please search the ZerOS manual for up-to-date ZerOS resources...

You can use the filter to only show content relevant to certain desk types...

I just did the same on my FLXS48 last week . Discovered the fact FLXS doesn't load from bootable sticks.  I wasn't aware of that, though I read the manual(s) carefully.

Costed me about an hour and the use of three USB sticks though.

I decided to go the safe way. Downloaded both 7.9.8 and 7.9.9 . To go from 7.9.7 to 7.9.9.  First updated to 7.9.8 and then to 7.9.9. No problems.

This took only ten minutes more from my time, but it worked fine.

Is the solution shareable? It may be of interest for other users. 🙂

The internal storage in the FLX S had corrupted, and needed to be re-flashed using a utility I shared with @Takuya Chinen

Hi @Edward Z88, thanks. Do you recall, was this the same issue with my FLX last year (when I came over to Cwmbran)? I don't remember if we recovered it prior to me leaving the console with you for service.

If so do we know why this corruption occurs?

I can confirm this is not the same issue. The internal storage on FLX is very different hardware to FLX S. The tool I provided to recover the FLX S is not compatible with FLX consoles.

Thank you Edward, I read that, but my knowledge and understanding of version numbers at that moment made me think I needed a bootable stick. Which I probably didn't need. But I discovered that way FLXS didn't boot a bootable stick .

You won't do any harm to FLX S consoles by booting them with a bootable drive plugged in - they will just ignore it.
