For an utterly pointless example, say I had 4 moving wash lights on a narrow beam running in a circle effect on say cue 4, if I copied cue 4 to cue 5, would the effect carry on for the lights current position or would they all reset then start the circle effect again when running the show form cue 4 to cue 5.

Not tried with real fixtures. But using Phantom ZerOs I tried recording cue 1 with a simple circle-effect and after that I copied cue 1 to cue 2. Looking at the DMX-output it looks like the effect just continues running when going to cue 2 from cue 1. I guess that makes sense since what is recorded is a reference to the circle-effect and ZerOs wont start the effect if it's already running.

@droiddk is exactly right - as ZerOS knows the "Circle" effect is already running, ZerOS won't restart it when going into the pasted cue. It would start the effect if the cue had been pasted after a cue with no effect data included.

The question what happens if between cue 1 and 2 are several more cues is the other question indeed.

I think If there is position data stored in cue 1 and you copy it to cue 2 (with other cues in between) it will probably snap the lights to the position of cue 1 and play the effect from there.

ZerOS would only snap the position of the lights in cue 2, if cue 2 had a 0 second position fade time. Otherwise the console would fade from the positions of the previous cue, into the positions of the new cue that the effect is running around.

    Hope this helps,

No, no particular reason, i just wanted to know if there was any way to do it like this, which is the more simple thing to do from my point of view.

I just thought it was possible ...

I'm very old school, and it's always strange for me to think about recording "something" empty between two cues to get what i want, but i'll do it cause i have no choice.

To move your fixtures in dark, is a two-step process: turn the fixtures off and move them, and then turn them back on. This therefore couldn't be done in a single cue.

You could potentially record your fixture's "Enable Blackout Whilst Pan/Tilt Moving" function, into the first cue. You could then record "Disable Blackout Whilst Pan/Tilt Moving" in the second cue, however add a Beam delay time to the second cue. This would mean that due to the delay time, upon going into the second cue the fixtures will be in blackout whilst your fixtures moved into position, but after the delay time, once your fixtures are over the audience, blackout can be disabled.

Personally, I would rather insert an extra cue, and have the audience cue follow automatically, for ease of control.

  3. Hi @glitcher0

If you wish to control multicell fixtures with your Leapfrog console, I'd recommend installing ZerOS 7.10, available from the link below...

    https://zero88.com/storage/downloads/0b68ecc6-9829-4000-b469-63b94a0c62c3/ZerOS-7.10.exe

If you do not wish to control multicell fixtures, ZerOS 7.9.9.5 software can be downloaded from the link below...

    https://zero88.com/storage/downloads/607844fa-0fdf-401a-9e42-29c8fac4e7bf/ZerOS-7.9.9.5.zip

    Installation instructions are available here...

it would be a feature that could be implemented by taking advantage of the large number of faders available.  It would be very useful in quick editing of theater cue stacks.

This feature request is logged on our system as reference number ZOS-9027. I have raised the priority of this following your request.

Can you speak about 7.10 update...

This update can be use for performance or is it a little bit premature ?

We have received excellent feedback regarding the stability of ZerOS 7.10 software.

We are aware of a potential crash in this software when running on legacy consoles. This issue is not present in the FLX range of consoles. We have a beta version available for legacy consoles that solves the issue.

I would like my Robe Robin600E to be "black" between two cues...

I know that i can manage that by enabling the "blink move on" option in the macro section of my fixtures, and it's working well, but in fact not in this case, because i want to go from a cue 1 (static full wash on stage) immediatly to a second cue (move & strobe on the sits of the amphitheater), and you well understand that if my macro option is on, then in the cue 2  my Robe are moving but no intensity (cause blink move is on 😀).

Thank you for the information, this makes sense.

    41 minutes ago, thierry said:

The "Move on dark" option is not a possibility because there is no intermediate cue (in which my Robe could be at no intensity or shutter on) between the two cues i'm using.

For this, I would certainly be looking at recording a cue between your stage wash cue and your audience cue. This could take your fixtures to black and move their position, with your audience cue automatically following on afterwards. Is there a particular reason you cannot do this?

The specifications of the dimmers state that they can report temperature, available phases and fan speed back to the console via RDM. However, I have not yet found the function in the FLX, nor did the instructions help me to query the RDM status of the dimmers. Is this function available in the FLX S? If so, where can I find it? If not, is it possible to add this with a software update? At the moment, firmware 7.9.8 is running on the console.  Do the dimmers need to be patched with a special fixture profile for this? If yes, does the RigSync RDM do this automatically?

FLX S consoles feature our RigSync software, which uses RDM for automatic patching and synchronisation. Currently FLX S consoles do not display RDM status information of connected devices. This is something we would like to implement in a future ZerOS software update.

If you have any questions, please let us know.

Hi, it is possible to assign groups on the faders?

    11 hours ago, pierotec said:

A group should function as a channels page fader.

It is not possible to control a group of fixtures in the programmer (red values in the Output Window) from a fader.

If there is a group of lights you wish to always control together, you could simply patch a single fixture into your console, and then add multiple DMX addresses to it in the Fixture Schedule.

    13 hours ago, Ed75 said:

Just double-tap a group so it comes on, and record it on the  fader you wish?? Or am I thinking too simple ?

You can record an intensity playback for a group of fixtures as per @Ed75's suggestion above. (On the standard FLX console, you could configure a macro so that raising the playback fader automatically selects the fixtures)

    Hope this helps.

Please could you confirm the current software version installed on your console?

If you haven't created any custom macros, I would recommend clearing all fixture macros. To do this tap SETUP -> Clear Options -> Clear Macros.

Then, exit SETUP, and hold SHIFT and tap MACRO, to open the Macros window. You should see a Automatically Create Macros button available if your fixtures have fixture macros available.

If you save a copy of your show file to a USB drive and email this to us, we can investigate.

If you have any questions, please let me know.

  10. Hi @glitcher0

The VariLite VL2500 Wash fixture personality has 4 fixture macros available:

    • [Fixture Display 100%]
    • [Fixture Global Reset]
    • [Lamp Off]
    • [Lamp On]

These will be created after patching the fixture and tapping Automatically Create Macros in the Macros window.

If this doesn't appear to be working for you, please email us a copy of your show file to support@zero88.com, and we will take a look.

Is it  better to downgrade temporarly to 7.9.9, or to update to the beta version ?

If you have a show file saved in ZerOS 7.10, you will not be able to load it into ZerOS 7.9.9.

Therefore if you have a ZerOS 7.10 show file you wish to use, or need to control multicell fixtures, I would recommend updating to the beta version.

If you do not have a ZerOS 7.10 show file, and do not need to control multicell fixtures, I would recommend rolling back to ZerOS 7.9.9.

ZerOS 7.9.9 can be downloaded from the link below...

The "ZerOS Library" format, that was introduced in ZerOS 7.9.8 software, uses a completely different database to the original Zero 88 Global Library. There is therefore no guarantee that the less-common fixtures will be included in the ZerOS Library.

Sorry to hear you have encountered a crash. Thank you for sharing the debug file.

This is an issue we are aware of in ZerOS 7.10 software, related to opening the Fixture Levels window on Solution consoles. We have a beta version that fixes this issue. If you would like access to the beta version, please let me know, and I would be happy to share this with you.

This issue will be fixed in the next ZerOS software release.

will it be able to run the later (st) versions of ZerOS , and any idea of future support?

And is it still able to cope with all new (more complicated) software and fixture patches? Or will it be slow and not really up to the task? (hardware wise)

Orb consoles are currently still supported, and can run the latest versions of ZerOS. There are several features not available on Orb, that are on the standard FLX, due to hardware limitations. As the software continues to develop, more features that come to FLX will not also be able to come to Orb.

Does it still make any sense investing in it? Mainly for theatre use, incl. some intelligent fixtures (movers)

As with most things, this comes down to cost. The Orb is different to all other consoles that run ZerOS, in that it doesn't have channel faders. Orb was discontinued 2 years before the standard FLX was launched.

  17. Hi @Jouper

As @thierry suggests, you can achieve your white strobe effect, if you ensure that you record all the necessary information for your fixtures.

As attributes in playbacks mix Latest Takes Precedence, raising your white strobe effect will be the most recent instruction for your fixtures, and so it will take over from the other active playbacks for the fixtures.

If you are using an effect, rather than a fixture's Strobe parameter, you will need to ensure you set the playback's intensity mixing to Latest Takes Precedence. See the link below for more information...

    https://zero88.com/manuals/zeros/cues-playbacks/playback-settings/general

    Hope this helps.

I already use that but I think it would be nice to have the fader only controlling the speed and not the size. I think speed control only for the fader would be great when busking :)

Many thanks for the suggestion. Speed Override does not adjust the Size of an effect, whereas Fader Controls Effect adjusts both the Speed and Size.

Do I need to care about tracking-options when I start recording a cue-stack from scratch? From my "reseach" I have found that using Tracking when recording into existing cue-stacks or updating a cue is always possible even when the current cue or cue-stack was recorded with "cue only" and Snapshot and Smart Tag disabled.

That is correct - when you record cues, the cues will be recorded using the tracking options at the point of recording. It therefore doesn't matter how you start recording a cue stack, as you could go and make changes with different tracking options later.

We find that most people program with Cue Only, but then enable Tracking for those situations where you need to edit a value for a light, or add a new value for a light, and want that change to take affect in multiple subsequent cues.

  20. Hi @droiddk

So, am I correct that tracking-options (for example “Cue Only” disabled  and “Track forwards” enabled) is first relevant when I want to record a new cue into an existing cue-stack or wants to update an existing cue in a cue-stack? I mean, its possible to use tracking-options even if the “original” recording into the cue-stack was made with “cue only”.

If you'd like to understand how the tracking options and SmartTag work together, I'd recommend watching the in-depth training video below...

    1 hour ago, droiddk said:

Am I correct that when working with tracking, its actually not important that Tracking is enabled ( “Cue Only” disabled and for example “Track forwards” enabled)  when recording into a simple cue-stack, like first cue 1, then cue 2 and 3 and so on. Tested with a simple cue-stack with Smart Tag on and “Cue only”. 6 cues recorded into a cue-stack all with 1 fixture-fader at 100% intensity. When running cue 1 intensity is at 100% and value is blue in output. Now I go to second cue and intensity is now purple and intensity still at 100% so tracking must be working. All recordings made with “Cue only”.

This is to do with SmartTag. When you have SmartTag enabled, the console is deciding what does, and what doesn't get included when you record your cues.

In this situation, you have recorded six cues, where a fixture was at the same level in every cue. SmartTag has therefore taken the decision to not record this fixture into every single cue, as there is no need. Instead, it can simply be recorded in cue 1, and then track through. If you were to update any of your cues, or record a cue out of order when Cue Only is enabled, ZerOS will make sure that the cue that follows looks exactly how you programmed it.

    Hope this helps.

    Edward
