  1. Hi Rob,

As best practice, it is usually best to power the FLX console first, and then the fixtures. If you have fixtures that without the presence of DMX will go into an auto mode, having the FLX powered first will mean they will boot straight into DMX receive mode, as there will already be DMX present when they boot up.

From a safety point of view, connecting the console first prior to powering the system, will ensure that the console is earthed. This doesn't require for the console to be switched on though. For more information see below...

Hope this helps, if you have any questions let me know.

  2. Hello,

Has this touchscreen worked with the console previously, or is this the first time trying it?

Please plug in the touchscreen via USB, power the touchscreen, and then boot the FLX S48. Then tap Z/Shift -> System Information -> System Info. In this window is a "Input Devices..." list. Can you see whether the Acer touchscreen is listed? Feel free to email me a picture of this window.

The Acer website seems to have fairly limited information...

    https://www.acer.com/ac/en/GB/content/model/UM.VT2EE.A01

I am struggling to see whether this states it works with Windows 10. If it needs special drivers to work and is not just plug and play with Windows 10, then unfortunately it sounds like it won't be compatible with FLX S.

If you have any questions let me know.

I've noticed that if you set the colour mix you want, then bring the intensity down to zero, you cannot raise the intensity again, you have to reset the colours back to zero, then raise the intensity again, then raise the colours again. Is this by design or something I'm missing?

If you lower your colour mix intensity playback, it will release control of the fixtures. When you then next raise it, it then triggers, sending the fixtures to the values recorded in the playback. In this case, Red, Green and Blue at 0, giving black. To stop this happening, you can simply prevent this playback from releasing, which in turn means it cannot be re-triggered upon raising its fader. To do this, open the playback settings, by pressing and holding SETUP and tapping the playback's button. Then choose Raise and Lower, and then disable Release On Lower.

If you ever want to manually release this playback, hold CLEAR and tap the playback's button.

    For more information see below...

Have just tested it and it was due to being in cue only mode so have managed to set the zoom on a fader now. Thanks

Great, glad you have managed to get your Zoom playback working.

On a different note, I'm trying to setup three other playbacks to control the rgb.

I've setup the colours on each playback but they don't mix, they just change colour when the next playback is moved.

I've looked for a guide but the links to old forum posts and guides don't work any more

We have now retired our old support.zero88.com site, and so unfortunately many old forum links will now be broken. All the information has been migrated on to the main site, with all ZerOS articles now living within the ZerOS Manual. For information on RGB colour mixing on playbacks, see below...

Just going over some old threads and I think I have run into my old problem with the desk being in cue only mode again as I didnt see the option to disable smart tag when holding record.

Ah yep you’ve got it. If you’re in Global Cue Only mode, the SmartTag button will be hidden.

I don't have an external monitor connected at the moment, would the advanced options only come up on the external or do they show on the internal touch screen as well?

All the currently available Record options will be shown in the Record Options window, that can be opened on the internal touchscreen by pressing and holding RECORD.

For more information on the Record Options, including the Global Tracking options, take a look at this section of the manual...

Hope this helps, if you have any questions let me know.

  6. Hello,

To record just the Zoom parameter to a playback, ensure the programmer is cleared (double tap CLEAR), select the fixture, then dial just the Zoom parameter to the level you wish to record it at. Then press and hold RECORD, and ensure SmartTag is disabled, indicated with a blue stripe. There is no need to adjust any other Record Options. With SmartTag disabled, anything that is currently tagged will get recorded, which in this case is just Zoom. You can then choose a playback button to store this to.

You can then configure the playback fader to control the beam parameters.

    Hope this helps,

    Edward

I have been using the FLX S48 for almost two years now.

The experience is very positive until now, and as I can see there have been some major improvements by the team.

Really glad to hear you have enjoyed a positive experience with FLX S48.

Whenever it comes into creating an effect, some times I need to "split" the effects direction throughout my selected fixtures in order to achieve a "mirrored" effect.

For this, I would recommend taking a look at the "Fan V" offset setting. This allows you to achieve mirrored effects, such as intensity working out from the middle of a selection of lights. To configure Fan V, press and hold SETUP, and tap the Effect tab at the top of the touchscreen to open the Effect Settings. Then hold Z/SHIFT, and choose "Fan V" from the Wheel Mode options. Release Z/SHIFT, and press OK. You have now configured the shifted effect encoder function to be fan V. Now, if you select the fixtures, you can apply the effect you need. Then tap "No Offset" at the top, to allow you to create your own custom offset rather than an automatic one. Then hold Z/SHIFT, and dial the offset encoder. As you continue to dial the wheel, you will see the fixtures start to "chase" one another, in or out from the centre point. When you have achieved an offset you like, tap RECORD, and store the effect as your own custom effect palette.

Also, by moving the encoder wheel, the value jumps two by two values (18, 20, 22, 24 / -19, -21, -23, -25) and makes it hard hit the desired value.

To adjust the sensitivity of the encoder wheels, again hold SETUP and tap Effect to open the Effect Settings, and in the window that opens is an option to adjust the Wheel sensitivity.

Furthermore, I would suggest that in the future we 'll be able to enter the speed, size & offset value manually, using the virtual keypad, which currently happens when it comes to fade timing whenever I am editing a cuelist, if I tap on fade time. (keypad pops up)

Many thanks for the suggestion. I will make a note of this.

I hope this helps, if you have any questions please let me know.

  8. Dear All,

If you’re free, join us for a relaxed look into various FLX range lighting console topics, online during February and March. Follow along with your console, Phantom ZerOS, or just watch, with plenty of time to ask questions, to make sure you get the most out of the sessions with the Zero 88 training team. These sessions will cover FLX S24, FLX S48, FLX and ZerOS Server, but will also be applicable to other Zero 88 consoles running the ZerOS operating system.

For a list of sessions, dates & times, and also to register, head to the training page below…

I am trying to rationalise my various fixtures, mostly generic Chinese unbranded, is there a readable list of fixtures with attributes available, as I do not want to duplicate fixtures already created by you, or will I have to guess my way down the list?

There is no list of fixtures detailing their channel maps, however I would recommend using the Fixture Editor software for PC to help you out. If you haven't downloaded it already, the Fixture Editor is contained in the Fixture Tools package which can be downloaded from the link below...

    https://zero88.com/library#download

Once installed, run the Fixture Editor, and then open the file that can be downloaded from the link below...

    https://zero88.com/fixtures/legacy-library/Legacy library (gft41.0)/UNBRANDED/_ALL UNBRANDED.ift

This file includes all of our existing Unbranded fixtures. If you work through the properties of each fixture, you may find one with the channel map you need.

    Hope this helps,

I tried your suggestion and the 'Test' Mode showed no issue with the faders.  I did visit Mr Screwfix yesterday for the can of air duster and applied that afterwards also

Thanks for the update. If there was any grime in the faders causing issues, it sounds like this may have cleared.

We have an Leap Frog 48 and i made the update to 7.9.9 but that was so bad to work with.

What issues did you experience with ZerOS 7.9.9? ZerOS 7.9.9 contains some small enhancements and an updated fixture library.

    12 minutes ago, MihiGyver said:

i decidet to downgread it again to 7.9.8, and somehow all the effect of the moving heads works when i select them in the mfk but when i store them as an submaster or cue it is not working.

If you tap Automatically Create Effect palettes in the Effect window, how many auto effects are created? You should see 45 auto effect palettes. In ZerOS 7.9.8, there was an issue with some fixtures not storing intensity effects correctly into cues. This is fixed in ZerOS 7.9.9.

If you have any questions let me know.

while getting things ready for my first piece of work coming up soon for quite some time

Really glad to hear your FLX is going to see some action again.

    53 minutes ago, Uriahdemon said:

Faders 1,2 and 3 are acting up. If I raise 1 the intensity on 2 also raises. I can also touch fader 2 while it is in the low position and the intensity flickers. Fader 3 intensity also flickers and changes intensity outputs.

Have you booted the console into test mode? If not please see the link below for more information...

    https://zero88.com/manuals/zeros/trouble-shooting/test-mode

Do your faders exhibit the same behaviour in test mode? If they do, I’d recommend using a can of air duster, and spraying this into the faders causing problems, and work them up and down. This will clear any dirt and grime that may be causing them to register incorrectly.

    Hope this helps,

    Edward

  14. Hi Jake,

Welcome to the Zero 88 forum.

As @kgallen says, sounds like to achieve what you're after, you will need to be in Partial programming mode. This means you can control what does and what doesn't get recorded into submasters.

More information on page 59 of the PDF manual here...

  15. Hi Tim,

The / shortcut allows you to define playback/cue numbers in record, update and delete commands. For example, RECORD 1/2 ENTER would record cue 2 on playback 1.

The > symbol has always been the shortcut for Thru in ZerOS, and as a symbol makes logical sense. > is also the symbol that has always been available to use in the Copy window to achieve Thru.

We may add another key option for Thru in future.

    Hope this helps,

    Edward

I'm currently in the same boat and I've been googling a bit but can't find multicell support in any of the things I've looked at yet. Was this ever implemented?

Multi-cell fixture support on FLX S, has been pushed back due to other requested features taking priority. Therefore currently to use the auto effects across the lamps of a Sunstrip, the lamps can be patched as individual dimmer channels.

Alternatively, you can patch the whole Sunstrip as a dedicated fixture from the library, and program your own chases to adjust the brightness of the individual lamps. When the Sunstrip is patched as a single fixture, auto effects will be applied to all lamps of the Sunstrip at once.

If you have any questions let me know.

  17. Hi Mac,

To change the universe of several fixtures at once, go to the Fixture Schedule, select all the fixtures you wish to move to the new universe, and tap the “Address” button at the top. Then tap “Universe” top left, and type the new universe number in. Then double tap ENTER, to save the new universe, without changing addresses.

The fixtures will be moved to their new universe.

    Hope this helps,

    Edward

I am also looking for the list of keyboard shortcuts but the link you posted isn't working anymore and I can't seem to find them elsewhere. Please can you repost.

We have recently moved away from our old online knowledge base, hence the links are no longer working.

ZerOS 7.9.8 has greatly increased the number of keyboard shortcuts available for FLX S consoles.
