Don't judge! I use FLX-S 48 exclusively as a busking desk using the faders as subgroups. The 2 pages of 48 faders can be limiting. It would be convenient to record some MFFs so the fader allowed manual control of the specific parameter of a fixture, (for example the DMX channel controlling a gobo wheel) rather than recording each gobo as a different subgroup.

What's the trick to making the subgroup fader vary its output value with the fader movement once you've recorded just the one attribute into it? Can we turn the fader's LTP behaviour into HTP?

Suggestions (apart from 'use cue-stacks') welcome.

Well, first look at "fader controls" here in the manual which should help with what you propose. I use this all the time to control combinations of pan/tilt/zoom/focus when busking.

However, don't rule out cue stacks, especially now we have OSC (I believe it is available on FLX S). IMHO, these are better for colours and probably for gobos because you don't have to fade through unwanted values to get what you want. They are especially easy to use with /zeros/cue/go OSC commands (I've been doing it in Beta test). You need something like Hexler TouchOSC MK1 running on a tablet or laptop on a network with the desk to send the commands (PM me if you need more help with that). I've been doing this with MIDI for ages but OSC will make it much simpler.

As @Davidmk mentions, record the parameter you want at its desired maximum level to a playback. Then in the playback’s settings, enable Fader Controls for the attribute that is included in the playback. For example, if Gobo is recorded, enable the Shape attribute under Fader Controls.

The playback fader can then be used as a variable crossfader between the recorded fixture’s current values, up to the maximum value you recorded.
