Ian_p Posted June 8, 2023 Report Share Posted June 8, 2023 Using the delete key for me is fraught with worry - as I 'think' it is context sensitive - i.e. which screen is on the lcd determines 'what' one is deleting? However, is this right? Attempting to delete a fixture from the fixture schedule screen either deletes all the fixtures as the 'Do you wish to delete all the selected fixtures' pops up before I've even typed a number, from other screens this offers to deletes playbacks when I trying to delete a cue within a playback. The manual, both printed and online does not say which screen one has to be in to delete a fixture, and I suspect it is a vital detail. DELETE can be used in some pre-fix and some post-fix scenarios but since they are not universal I can understand there is some "ambiguity" where there isn't a button that can be used as a qualifier. Where I can I'll use a qualifier, DELETE GROUP 1 for example. On the fixture schedule I'll select first, 1 THRU 4 DELETE. Similar applies to cues in a playback which I believe (key to your question) is view-context sensitive. This is relevant in a number of DELETE scenarios. As yet this hasn't been forthcoming. I thought the manual was fairly comprehensive on this topic (and clearly I'm not always comfortable with every scenario), but I'm sure Edward will read this thread and re-read the manual section to ensure it's clear, particularly in the areas you highlight. In that respect if there are other scenarios that give you butterflies then I'd capture them in this thread for Edward to review the documentation. Having looked, what is evident of course that because DELETE can be used in so many contexts, it's not documented in its entirety in one section of the manual. However, is this right? When it comes to deleting, it is always best practice to err on the side of caution! When outside of Setup, it doesn't matter which window is shown on the internal touchscreen when you tap DELETE. After tapping delete, you then choose what you want to get rid of. To get rid of a group/palette/macro, tap DELETE, and then tap the item on the touchscreen. To delete a playback or UDK, tap DELETE, and tap the playback or UDK's button. When in Setup > Fixture Schedule, the DELETE behaviour is reversed - you first select the fixtures you wish to remove, then tap DELETE, then confirm. Ian_p Posted June 9, 2023 Author Report Share Posted June 9, 2023 Thanks both - this working on the FLX - the protocol of selecting first and then pressing Delete makes sense to me. However I think I do have an issue on the FLXS24 - I can't update a fixture without crashing the desk - when I touch the DMX field in the add a fixture the desk immediately reboots, but I realize this is a separate issue and will wait for 7.14, as we are using the FLX for this show.
