By default, the Record Options window should only appear on the internal touchscreen if the RECORD key is pressed and held. It therefore sounds like a setting may have been changed on your console. This setting lives in SETUP -> Settings -> Record & Update. The default option is "External Display", meaning the Record Options will appear on external desktops (such as remote apps) when RECORD is tapped, but will only appear on the internal touchscreen when pressed and held. When set to "External Display", you should be able to record groups as expected. I hope this helps.
