Default colour time

From your screenshots what I think is happening is the default trigger threshold is 5%. As you move up the fader the LEDs intensity raises but the colour trigger doesn’t happen until 5%.

You should set the playback button to GO function (Setup+Playback) and press that button before raising the fader to ‘prep’ your LEDs.

You could try reducing the trigger threshold and/or disabling release on lower if that would work in the context of your other playbacks. The latter could cause issues though if you want to overlay playbacks.

Very simplistic - we only have two LED Fresnels and the rest are generics. Also I am quite new to the FLX. Have never used tracking or move on dark!

Running on subs - so even if I have only two faders programmed - one for each LED - then just bringing up the light will still have the delay.

Until someone from Z88 comes along with a better answer...

My first suggestion would have been to set the fader to control colour but I see you have already done that. This should fade the colour from whatever it currently is to the new colour as you raise the fader. It doesn't go straight to the new colour though so, if the are currently blue and your playback makes them red the colour will start blue and through through purple and magenta before ending at red.

You could try changing the trigger level (see manual here). By default the cue in the playback doesn't come in until the fader reaches 5% if the fixtures already have an intensity level and a colour then this will show below 5%. While you are at it you should make sure trigger on raise is selected.

Following on from that, set the playback button to Go (snap) and press the button before raising the fader. Not a very convenient option but might get you by.

You can change the default colour to black. This will not change what happens when you already have some colour set by another playback but it will mean that the fixture comes up from black when there are no other playbacks active. Check the manual here for amending default values.

On FLX , tracking is not scary. With SmartTag enabled tracking will seem to you as Cue Only, but will give you some behind the scenes benefit as you move to more non-conventional fixtures.

Move on dark just works in the background for any fixture that needs to do some ‘prep’, but your programming style can stop MOD working when you need it to. Cue Only mode is the main Achilles Heel.

My rigs are between 50% and 75% conventional too. It’s worth getting into the habit of using the ‘more advanced’ style to future proof your learning. Take a look at the excellent videos Edward has put on YouTube. At least one of these will also help you debug the scenario you raise here.

Possibly not relevant here (because it's a bit of a rabbit hole where it is easy to lose your way) but don't forget playbacks can be released by cues in others. Trouble is that it is a snap release. LTP still applies, even to lowered but unreleased playbacks though. I use both in my rather convoluted busking set up. Still end up with oddities where it is very difficult to trace where the issue originates from.

I have a LED which comes up on its default colour before going to the desired green. The same happens on other channels.

I have tried deleting and recreating to no avail.

Up, down and colour times are set to zero.

What am I missing?

Thank you very much for attaching images of your playback. In Playback 21's settings, Fader Controls Colour has been enabled. Therefore, your playback is acting as a crossfader to transition your fixtures from their current colour, to their recorded colour. If they are in default, you therefore see a crossfade from default, which is white as standard, through to your recorded green. To avoid this behaviour, disable Fader Controls Colour, so that the Colour button in the Playback Settings has a blue rather than red stripe. The moment the playback is raised, the fixtures will then use the cue's colour fade times. Your cue colour fade time has been set to 0 seconds, and so your fixtures will snap to the recorded colour, allowing you to raise the fixture's intensity over the top using the playback's fader.

The trigger level is used for all attributes, including intensity. Therefore if you have a fixture recorded @ full on a playback, you can raise the playback, and once you get to 5% travel, the fixture will go to 5%, and other attributes will go to their recorded values, all using the cue timings.

It can be beneficial to reduce a playback's trigger level, particularly when controlling LED fixtures with poor dimmer curves. To adjust the trigger level hold SETUP and tap your playback's button. Choose Raise and Lower from the top, and then reduce the Trigger Level to 1% for example.

See the link below for more information on the Trigger level...

I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions.
