Morning all,

Just configuring our rig to use RDM and I was just checking that when a show is saved it keeps a record of the RDM ref in relation to the fixture settings? So if I recall a show the fixtures will all be set up correctly?

ZerOS will apply your rig configuration to your show file. It will not apply your show file configuration to your rig.

Therefore, if you load in a show file, ZerOS will look at the RDM IDs of the fixtures in the show file, to see whether they match fixtures that are currently connected.

If there is a match, ZerOS will change the modes and addresses in the show file, to match the fixtures in the rig. In this situation it will not automatically change the addresses and modes of your fixtures.

If you have any questions, please let us know.

ok thanks for that Edward. Disappointing as it means if a visiting company comes in and changes the mode and address of each fixture I will have to remap everything to get it up and running again.

It would be useful to have a similar function to a lot of audio kit in that you can select "update from or to a device"

For this, you could use the "Revert Rig Back" button. Pressing this button, will revert your fixtures back to the settings they were discovered in. Therefore one you have set your fixtures the required addresses and modes, you could reset your console, and then let your console discover all your fixtures. You can then save this show file, as your base RDM configuration. After the visiting company has come in, you can then reload your base RDM show file, and press Revert Rig Back.

Hope this helps.

Hi Simon,

I think the end result will be what you want, but not by the method you expect.

When RigSync discovers and patches a fixture, the link between the console and that fixture is the RDM UID, not the DMX address. Therefore, if someone messes up all the DMX addresses and then you load your older showfile in, RigSync will make sure that your showfile works by:

  1. Repatching your showfile to match the new addresses
  2. Readdressing any fixtures where this isn’t possible (eg overlaps)

Also, remember about the “Revert Rig” option. When RigSync discovers your fixtures, it will store the values of those fixtures into the showfile before then making any required changes. So… if your rig is “correct” at the point of RigSync discovery, RigSync will store these settings and patch your fixtures, but not make any changes. If someone messes up all the DMX addresses, you then have the option to load that showfile in and click “Revert Rig” (note – when loading in your showfile, RigSync might automatically make lots of changes to make the rig work, so if you want it back to how it was before, you’ll need to click “Revert Rig” and then reload your showfile)

Thanks both.

So if I do the following:

use RDM to patch all my fixtures

disconnect from console

start a new show file

reconnect to console and allow to discover all fixtures as set

store this as my base file

after visiting company has left reattach my console with base file loaded and press revert rig.

Will this re-patch my fixtures to how they were?

That is correct - by "start a new show file", make sure you perform a Reset Desk.
