Techie_v2 Posted February 12, 2022 Report Posted February 12, 2022 Hi all, I've got a programming session all day tomorrow and for the first time I'm going to be using moving wash lights for most of the show. I was just wondering, how does copy and pasting cues affect effects. For an utterly pointless example, say I had 4 moving wash lights on a narrow beam running in a circle effect on say cue 4, if I copied cue 4 to cue 5, would the effect carry on for the lights current position or would they all reset then start the circle effect again when running the show form cue 4 to cue 5. I realise it's pointless copying for one cue directly to the next, I just want to know the theory of what happens. Does the desk just copy and paste the absolute values or does it run the same process as normal recording cues where if nothing has changed, it ignores it. So if I copied cue 6 to cue 9, would it take an exact copy of 6 and put it in 9 or would it look at cue 8 and work out what's changed between 8 and 6 and put it in 9. (The question makes sense in my head anyway) Thanks Quote

Hi Good question 🙂 Not tried with real fixtures. But using Phantom ZerOs I tried recording cue 1 with a simple circle-effect and after that I copied cue 1 to cue 2. Looking at the DMX-output it looks like the effect just continues running when going to cue 2 from cue 1. I guess that makes sense since what is recorded is a reference to the circle-effect and ZerOs wont start the effect if it's already running. I also tried deleting cue 1 and running cue 2 and the effects starts so the reference is in cue 2. Kind Regards droiddk Quote
Ed75 Posted February 13, 2022 Report Posted February 13, 2022 I didn't have the opportunty to try. The question what happens if between cue 1 and 2 are several more cues is the other question indeed. I think If there is position data stored in cue 1 and you copy it to cue 2 (with other cues in between) it will probably snap the lights to the position of cue 1 and play the effect from there. It would start the effect if the cue had been pasted after a cue with no effect data included. 12 hours ago, Ed75 said: The question what happens if between cue 1 and 2 are several more cues is the other question indeed. ZerOS would only snap the position of the lights in cue 2, if cue 2 had a 0 second position fade time. Otherwise the console would fade from the positions of the previous cue, into the positions of the new cue that the effect is running around. You're right I'm sorry about the 'snap' idea. But it WILL go play the effect then from the positions of the copied cue ? That's exactly right - upon pasting the cue, both the base position for the effect, and the effect itself, will be a copy of the original cue.
