Kay Posted January 26, 2020 Report Posted January 26, 2020 Dear Team, need a good idea/solution: Let's assume some RGB-fixtures (some washer for background lighting). For a live-show I want to change the colors just by moving one fader up/down, cycling through some rainbow-colors. Similar to the rainbow-effect, but not on a timely base, but on a fader-position-base. No need to change brightness, just assume 100%. Maybe there is a solution with fader-position down (0) for black, and values 1 to 255 for different colors (in full brightness). Ideas? Sounds tricky, does it? Thanks, Kay Quote
kgallen Posted January 26, 2020 Report Posted January 26, 2020 Rainbow effect then set Fader Controls -> Effect ? Quote
Kay Posted January 26, 2020 Author Report Posted January 26, 2020 Tried, but still keeps cycling through the colors when I stop fader-movement. Maybe wrong settings for "record"? Did you try? Could you provide detailed steps if you got it working? Thanks, Kay. Quote
kgallen Posted January 27, 2020 Report Posted January 27, 2020 Check you have release on lower configured (Setup->Playback button). Sorry don’t have my desk or a rig out at the moment to try and it out. Quote
Edward Z88 Posted January 27, 2020 Report Posted January 27, 2020 Hi Kay, 11 hours ago, Kay said: For a live-show I want to change the colors just by moving one fader up/down, cycling through some rainbow-colors. Some LED fixtures have a colour macro parameter that allows you to do exactly this, I'm guessing your fixtures don' have this? 11 hours ago, Kay said: No need to change brightness, just assume 100%. Could you simply select these fixtures, and then use the colour picker live? Edward Quote Edward Smith Product Specialist Email Support
Kay Posted January 28, 2020 Author Report Posted January 28, 2020 Thanks, Edward, you are right: RGB is the only we can use, as "smallest common property". In fact I am more the "a fader is a fader is a fader"-guy, instead of touching and whiping. The "color picker solution" will look like this: 1) Select Group-Window 2) Select group(s) 3) Change to color picker 4) Search for the small cross showing the current color 5) Try to hit the cross as near as possible, otherwise colors on stage will jump 6) Slowly move finger to the new color 7) Eventually start again at step 1) for next groups The "Rainbow fader solution" will work like this: 1) Move the fader(s) to the new position Maybe I will do the "3-fader RGB-trick", so I could control 8 groups on one page (on FLX S24), which should be quite enough. But I will still be open to a "one fader rainbow cycling"-solution ;-) Thanks, Kay Quote
Kay Posted January 28, 2020 Author Report Posted January 28, 2020 Maybe using FLX on PhantomOS would allow to create a new, custom effect, which than can be imported into FLX S? Did some tests on FLX (Phantom), but no success. So where are our specialists ;-) ? Thanks, Kay Quote
kgallen Posted January 28, 2020 Report Posted January 28, 2020 Still not directly answering your initial question, but does anything in this thread give you anything more workable? Quote
Edward Z88 Posted January 28, 2020 Report Posted January 28, 2020 Hi Kay, What you are after is a "hue" channel, allowing you to cycle through the hues you want using a single parameter. Unfortunately unless there is a macro/hue channel on the fixture, there wouldn't be a way of creating a hue parameter for you to then record on the console. What you could do is record a rainbow effect for your fixtures on one playback, and then set up a speed override on another playback. You could then run the rainbow effect, and the various colours would start to cycle, and you can then bring your speed override fader down to stop the effect when you get to the colour you're after. Remember speed override will affect the currently viewed playback. You could then record a separate intensity fader, and enable fader controls colour on the rainbow playback, giving you intensity on one fader, saturation from the rainbow effect playback, and then use the speed override fader to choose the hue. If you have any questions let me know. Edward Quote Edward Smith Product Specialist Email Support
Kay Posted January 28, 2020 Author Report Posted January 28, 2020 @kgallen Short answer is NO 🙂 This thread gave some really helpful images (I like "RGB Blur", because "original" color picker image is mostly white at the bottom, so space is wasted which could be used for more colors/shading). I also use the image you posted above. But, as you said, original issue (rainbow-fader) is still open. Greetings, Kay Quote
Kay Posted January 29, 2020 Author Report Posted January 29, 2020 Okay, so in summary I will use 2 methods: 1) Selecting groups "live" and just use jog-dials to change R-G-B-values, or 2) Use the RGB-3-Fader-trick for every group of fixtures. 8 groups will fit on one page, so still 24 faders left on second page. Thanks for ideas, Kay Quote
