As I don't remember the whole article I'm not sure what bits you've added, but I can see a section on what we've recently been discussing re adding other attributes to the Effect palette. What is not fully clear to me is why I need to use the "green stripe" (I realise this means all parameter of the attribute versus tagged parameters of the attribute) - although I'll hazard that it's the following reason (please correct/clarify): If programming an Effect palette, then it's ok to have Effect with the red stripe, as we're recording an Effect-type palette, so we are allowed to capture only some Effect parameters. If we want to add (e.g.) Colour to an Effect Palette then we are "forced" to record all Colour parameters so have to use the "green stripe" - it's not permissible/allowed to add only some colour parameters to an (Effect) palette, so we can't use "red stripe". (An "interesting" requirement, but that seems to how it is!). Thanks, Kevin Quote

As you say, would definitely be nice to be more picky with this, and just allow for individual parameters from other attributes to be included. It's on the to-do list. kgallen Posted December 30, 2021 Author Report Posted December 30, 2021 I’m on 7.10 and back with these requirements. The KB is gone so Edward’s links don’t work. Because I’m stupid I still couldn’t get this to work despite reading the whole thread and Edward’s patient words again. After finally getting my head around it again I’m writing it once more so I can come back to it next time. It’s easy when you know how but I can bet in the stress of tech rehearsal I’ll forget the subtleties again... 1. Create the effect with the ICBSPE attributes as required, even if some of these aren’t required in the palette (for example above I was programming at home so for example Intensity and Position were so I could see what I was doing, but would be cue dependent in the final application of the palette). 2. Remember (in your head) the Effect palette number to be used. 3. Press and hold RECORD button to get the record options dialogue up. 4. Press EFFECT button. This will grey out some options and change the state of others. SmartTag and Snapshot should be off (blue). 5. Change to a green stripe those attributes (ICBSPE) required in the Effect palette. 6. Type the palette number, press ENTER. (Note: If you have an external monitor - or at least the Record Options dialog box open where it's not blocking the palette touchscreen - you can tap a palette position.) The Effect palette should now contain only the ICBSPE attributes selected with green stripes in 5. 7. Breathe. I believe this same process can be used to record a multi-attribute palette into any of the other palette types. In this example I use Effect because fundamentally I was creating a palette with dynamics. However I think for example you could create say a CB palette in Colour if you had a colour+zoom combo you wanted to capture. ETA: ^^^ Yes you can. As another aside I was also using the Effects quite a bit and got to my requirements relatively quickly - both Position and Colour effects. One suggestion for a new one would be "Explosion" as a new Colour Effect - deep red baseline with whites flashing rapidly across the top (would work over a number of LED PARs for example). I will maybe persevere a little more with "Red Sparkle" but any suggestions to achieve that effect welcome! I also used the (slightly quirky) guidelines in this thread to record some Effects palettes with EC or EB or ECB attributes 🙂 You'll also be pleased to hear I used the Waveform engine too - I wanted a blue/purple cross fade cycling and I actually managed to achieve this fairly quickly with a Blue base overlaying a Red sine. Whilst I happily understand sine functions and all the rest, this engine is still a little bit of "black magic" and "luck", it's not at all intuitive, particularly as there is no "waveform viewer" to understand how the waveforms. offsets and size are combined to generate the results. I acknowledge that the maths under the hood is being applied to spec, but the net result at the fixture is something of bemusement! Also that screen is extremely fiddly - the fields are so very small to get at with your finger...! Regards, Kevin Quote

For this one, I would also use "Red Sparkle", but maybe go to colour, and dial down the "base level" of red slightly. You can then play with the random auto-offset button, to get a random order you're happy with. As you know, a "new" effects engine is something we're keen to implement, which you've already voted for in the "wish-list" thread.
