keredyelesob Posted December 21, 2015 Report Posted December 21, 2015 Hi, I think this is more a question for Jon and the Zero88 team, but thought I would post it in the public domain rather than speak with them direct to get general feedback. Anyway, I am currently touring panto where we have been making good use of several Pixel strips (ws2811 chips for anyone interested) we have several DMX decoders that basically assign each pixel with 3 DMX channels (RGB) unfortunately Zeros desks do not offer pixel mapping capability so I am having to use a tiger touch L, I would however prefer to use one of my Zeros desks, leading me onto my question. I know it is a big ask but is this something Zero88 would consider implementing into their desks in the near future, I have seen pixel mapping getting used more and more over the last few months and would really like to be able to use my Zeros desks to control them. I know a lot of people will say use a media server or similar for this, but if you only want to light a small area then a media server is just over kill, if the strip is kept within one or two universes it would be great to just use the lighting console. Jon Hole Posted December 21, 2015 Report Posted December 21, 2015 You mean something like this? These are early screenshots of something we're working on in the background :-) Quote Jon Hole Global Product Manager, Systems and Control
keredyelesob Posted December 21, 2015 Author Report Posted December 21, 2015 Hi Jon, this is great news it looks very interesting and similar to what i have used with other desks and pc software. I know its early stages but will you be able to specify the matrix layout? For example a grid 33 x 33 or just a strip 1 x 30. Also will it be posible to load animated gif images or flash files? Last question for now ☺ i see the screen shots are from the orb, do you plan to release on the other zeros desks? I am looking forward to seeing this functionality in a future release ☺ Quote
Jon Hole Posted December 21, 2015 Report Posted December 21, 2015 The screenshot shows a 10 x 6 grid, so that could be 60 individual fixtures, or maybe 6 sunstrips or something like that. I can't really answer any more questions at this stage :-) Quote Jon Hole Global Product Manager, Systems and Control
keredyelesob Posted December 22, 2015 Author Report Posted December 22, 2015 Hi Jon This defiantly sound like exactly what i was after (amusing the fixtures can be RGB), quite exited now I know its early stages but will you be able to specify the matrix layout? For example a grid 33 x 33 or just a strip 1 x 30. What i meant was will the layout be user definable, so you can have any shape grid to fit the user needs? I will hold back asking questions until you have more of an idea with the functionality. :-p cheers Quote
Jon Hole Posted December 22, 2015 Report Posted December 22, 2015 You must start with a square grid (any size) but not every "cell" must be "populated" with a fixture. So if you want a curve, or a circle, you just create a suitably sized square grid and then just "populate" the cells you require. Quote Jon Hole Global Product Manager, Systems and Control
ziglight Posted January 11, 2016 Report Posted January 11, 2016 Hello this is very good news and I hope the Pixel-mapping feature will arrive very quickly (even a very basic-one would be nice) note : I am working also with Congo/Cobalt desks and pixel mapping is easy to handle on there note also : even a freeware like Freestyler-DMX offers already pixel-mapping -> based on personal or fixed designs or even gif files (animated or static) Quote
keredyelesob Posted July 26, 2016 Author Report Posted July 26, 2016 Hi Jon I was just thinking about this thread and wondered if you had made and further progress with its development. would love to use my zeros desks for pixel mapping soon. its a bit of a pain using two desks when working with pixels. Joebee_345 Posted September 12, 2016 Report Posted September 12, 2016 Hi there, I was wondering if you had any updates on the timeline for when this new feature will be released. As I am planning on including some very basic pixel mapping, chases and effects on my adj mega tri bars for a show at the end of November. Also if you don't think the update will not be released by then; is there another way I can make pixel chases on my flx without using external hardware. Any help would be appreciated. Quote
Jon Hole Posted September 13, 2016 Report Posted September 13, 2016 is there another way I can make pixel chases on my flx without using external hardware. There won't be pixel mapping software released by your event in November, however there are probably other ways of doing this. If you put the batten into 54 channel mode, you can then patch it into the console as 18 separate "RGB" fixtures. This gives you control of each one individually, but also allows you to select them all, run and effect on them, and offset that effect across the individual cells. jw-lighting Posted September 15, 2016 Report Posted September 15, 2016 There won't be pixel mapping software released by your event in November, however there are probably other ways of doing this. Hi Jon, do you intend to include pixel mapping within the first zerOS 8 release or is it lower priority and therefore included in a later release? Quote
Jon Hole Posted October 13, 2016 Report Posted October 13, 2016 Hi Jon, do you intend to include pixel mapping within the first zerOS 8 release or is it lower priority and therefore included in a later release? The current plan is the first release, but sometimes we decide to split features out so we can do more regular releases. For example, instead of waiting 12 months for 4 features, it would mean you're only waiting 12 months for one of the features as the others have already been released (although usually that means we get complaints that the last three features are late, rather than the truth which is that the first three features are early!) Sven76 Posted August 30, 2017 Report Posted August 30, 2017 Hi Jon, quite a bit time since your last update. Is there anything new you can tell about this toppic? Quite missing this feature 😉 Best regards Sven Quote
Sven76 Posted September 22, 2017 Report Posted September 22, 2017 Hi, any update here? Best regards Sven Quote
kgallen Posted September 22, 2017 Report Posted September 22, 2017 although usually that means we get complaints that the last three features are late, rather than the truth which is that the first three features are early! I think Sven is now suggesting that all "4 features" are probably late - 3 weeks to pull the rabbit out of the hat before he gets really miffed! Quote
