FLX Lighting Console - Introduction & Overview

I'm interested to know what the other ones are :-)

I think my main two questions would be,

When is it due for release (will you be displaying it at the Plasa event in Leeds)? and how much will it retail for?

other questions would be:

is this the replacement for the frog 2 console?

how many universes will it have, native, and how many will it support,

how many monitors can be directly connected to the console (not remote)

will the max Que stacks (1000) and sub masters (600) be the same as the orb?

will this come with Midi and remote switch interface or will this be additional?

Power supply built in like the orb or external like the solution? (built in is better for me)

number of USB ports? Currently 4 is pushing the limit when using touch screen and powering wireless adapters

other points of interest for me would be:

Wireless network interface (in addition to LAN) would be amazing when using the remote app.

what is the expected dimensions? (I tour a lot so size and weight is a deciding factor

I look forward to the launch of this new desk if it is like the orb i expect good things, LOL no pressure.

Until we officially launch, I can't answer too much - but I'll make sure I come back here and answer all of these questions as soon as I can! I can answer this one though...

(will you be displaying it at the Plasa event in Leeds)?

Yes - towards the end of the video above we list the shows we've currently confirmed:

We've released full information now, and a longer video - more info can be found at zero88.com/flx

To answer all your questions...

Looks interesting... so many questions,i think the main one (you will be able to answer) is will it be running zeros?

Yes - but it's been rewritten and compiled to run on ARM Processors.

how many universes will it have, native, and how many will it support,

4 universes in total over Art-Net or sACN. There are two DMX Ports on the back, which can output any of the four universes.

how many monitors can be directly connected to the console (not remote)

One monitor directly, over DVI-D. And ZerOS now supports multiple resolutions, so if you use a higher resolution monitor, you will see more stuff, rather than just bigger stuff!

will the max Que stacks (1000) and sub masters (600) be the same as the orb?

There are 241 playbacks in total. These can each have a single cue (and hence work like submasters - we've brought all the submaster settings across), or they can each have multiple cues. Up to 10,000 cues in total.

will this come with Midi and remote switch interface or will this be additional?

Yes, the console has MIDI In and MIDI Out (currently MIDI Out is acting as MIDI Thru) and there is a D-Sub connector for up to 8 close contact remote triggers, all built in.

Power supply built in like the orb or external like the solution? (built in is better for me)

There's a built in PSU ("medical grade"!) with a Neutrik PowerCON TRUE1 connector.

number of USB ports?

5 in total - two on the rear, one on the front panel and one on each side.

what is the expected dimensions? (I tour a lot so size and weight is a deciding factor

659mm x 342mm x 90mm

Hi Jon, just a question.

Is it possible to set the MFFs Faders freely through channels and playbacks in the same page (e.g. I want to set faders 1-2 to channel and 4-5 to playback) or I can only switch between the two set up for all the faders together?

Thank you!

As jw-lighting says, it's 24 channels or 24 playbacks.

ZerOS Wings can be connected to the console, and each set of 24 faders can be independently set between channels or playbacks.

Do you have enabled Enttec wings in the setup menu ("Wings, ZeroWire")?

Isn't ZeroWire something completely different....?

Under wings - Yes, I have it enabled. I'm using my Playback wing just fine (well, almost. It needs several reboots to actually connect with the desk sometimes, depends on the day... )

Yes, ZeroWire was a very old wireless system we used to manufacture, which can be configured within ZerOS. It's not the same as our current ZeroWire CRMX system.

Enttec Playback Wings are supported within ZerOS, and on FLX.

Cucolino - what requires rebooting? The Enttec Wing, or the console?

I still wonder -> any other, or "just" the playback wing?

It's the wing actually, or sometimes just the connection (LAN) cable. This wasn't an issue at older zeros versions, but isn't such a big deal. The thing is, that with LAN cable connected and console turned, on, the wing stays with both 7 segs set to "88", and doesn't initialize all the way (as it seems). So my guess is that either the connection is blocking the initialization, or there could be something wrong with the wing. (It boots up normally without LAN cable...)

Sometimes pressing the Up/Down button on the console (I have set that the page up/down and page display of the console are replicated on the wing) initializes it automatically.. but thats like 10% of the cases....

We're calling it "ZerOS Wing" and it has 24 faders. It works on all ZerOS consoles, including Phantom ZerOS.

(A software update will have to be released to other consoles before they support ZerOS Wing).
