Check the battery voltage on the mainboard without any power applied to the desk - it should be at least 3.6v DC - anything lower and the battery needs replacing.

 

The RAM on the desk is sustained by the battery - if the voltage on that drops, the internal tables get corrupted and the desk has issues starting at times. Try swapping the battery first (and as it will be a soldered in NimH - check that it hasn't leaked and damaged the main board).
