Hi guys,

I'm involved in setting up panto at the moment. This year, we would like to be able to cue some LX cues automatically from my backing track / SFX playback system (for timed chases, bumps, blackouts, and state changes etc.).

Firstly, I am vaguely lighting-savvy, but only as an aside to my music - I am no expert, and no LX programmer, so please be gentle :D

I am told that the desk we will be using is the LeapFrog 96. My playback system is Show Cue System, which can usefully output MIDI (MSC), RS232, Telnet, and DMX. There is no guarantee that the board at the venue has the MIDI expansion, so can you please tell me if it is possible to 'GO' cues on the LeapFrog using DMX or Telnet?

Show Cue System DMX implementation - user assigns DMX channels to the functions: Go Button, Stop All, Pause/Resume All, Go To Top, Go Back, Go To Next.

SCS Telnet implementation - Sends the following commands: scsGO("0") [GO Button], scsGo("x"), scsGoTop, scsStop("x"), and scsStopAll - where "x" is a specific cue number.

Many thanks for any help you can offer!

Hi Martin

We currently do not have Telnet or MIDI Showcontrol implemented for the Leap Frogs. We do support MIDI Notes for Memory Triggers, so if you can get the upgrade card then you could use those.

We are looking at supporting MIDI Show Control and Telnet in a future version of ZerOS, however this may be too late for your show.

One solution might be to use DMX-In - it can be used to trigger submasters - if you were clever you could program a macro to those submsaters so when they 'raise' on DMX input, they trigger the macro to go, pause, stop etc. I think that's how i'd do it today.

When is the show?

Hi Peter,

Thanks for the reply. You may have seen my post and the subsequent replies on Blue Room as well.

So can MIDI notes be used to trigger specific cues? The LeapFrog may end up with the MIDI board on it (which would save me the hassle of setting up a USB DMX interface on my computer in the pit). Is there a correlation between the MIDI note numbers (0-127) and the memories that can be triggered?

The show is panto - 10 Dec to 10 Jan.

Thanks,

Hi Martin

When MIDI Notes is set to Memories (in SETUP/Desk Setup/Inputs), the MIDI notes cause a GO to the memory corresponding to the Note-on message. Note-off messages are ignored in this case. You can set the 'first note' in the MIDI Notes settings, and the desk will increment from there.

I hope this helps,

Peter
