andym Posted November 24, 2009 Report Posted November 24, 2009 Hi. I'm new to Zero 88 and to the Jester desk, recently taking over responsibility for the stage lighting at our local drama society. My question is whether it is possible to plug in a gooseneck console light via the DMX XLR. I have an adaptor to take the 5 pin down to the required 3 (for the light) but dont want to purchase the light if I'm unable to use it. Sorry if this is a "dim" question. (Forgive the pun!!) Quote
Kirkup_xp Posted November 26, 2009 Report Posted November 26, 2009 Hi Andy Unfortunately not - the DMX sockets are not powered sockets - they carry the data to the dimmers. The approved way of lighting your Jester desk is via the use of a USB desk lamp - we hold these as stock items, but in all honesty you will be better off buying them directly - most computer accessories suppliers will be able to supply these. I hope this helps clear things up, Kind Regards, Quote Peter Kirkup
andym Posted November 27, 2009 Author Report Posted November 27, 2009 Thanks for the reply. I did realise that the dmx was a data out socket but wasn't sure whether a p/s was somehow piggy backed onto the remaining pins. Silly when I think about it more!! Thanks anyway. Andy Quote
jw-lighting Posted June 2, 2010 Report Posted June 2, 2010 I've another question due to the usage of the USB socket for a lamp: What is the limiting current the USB socket can drive? Quote
Kirkup_xp Posted June 3, 2010 Report Posted June 3, 2010 500mW, as defined by the USB standard. Quote Peter Kirkup
jw-lighting Posted June 3, 2010 Report Posted June 3, 2010 I think 500mA is what you mean. 500mW at 5V are only tiny 100mA. Furthermore, 500mA are the standart. Thank you, now I've all information to build my own lamp Quote
