I hereby support the notion of default palettes.

Allow the fixture profile to create a default palette set for (at least) color and beamshape, and then ask if you want that loaded into the palettes at the time that the fixture is assigned. This way, it may not be perfect, but at FAST shows, at least there will be something there. And yes, we know that there are too many instruments for all of them to have BLUE in position 3 of the pallete, but thats why you allow us to edit the fixture profile in the desk so that we can order that palette any way we want to match what we are doing with the other fixtures in the show. Yeah, it's some more work for us, but it's easier to change the order around than to enter the values for every one of the fixtures that we add to the show.

Default palettes are a good idea. Yes they are.

Yes they are and at some point we may try and implement them. The can of worms however is immense. You have 20 color palettes. With a CYM fixture how many colors do you have...

Theoretically with CYM parameters there are 16,777,216 combinations 8O

There are some fixtures which have CYM AND one or more colour wheels !

Just to add a little to this thread, many consoles which have the "auto create pallets" feature only create half a dozen or so pallets - for colour, that could be each of the colours of the rainbow. for position, do a full left pan, 0 tilt; centre pan, 0 tilt; right pan, 0 tilt; full left pan, centre tilt; etc...

This would work well for busking shows, although would take a while to set up. Even if you could only impliment this for a particular range of fixtures, it would be useful. Perhaps you could "borrow" the data from the details section of the fixture profile - it reads off the colours, as defined, and creates pallets for them.
