Fat Frog Ram Check

Greetings to all,

Question for the Zero 88 techs-some questions about the RAM:

1.) How does one verify that the RAM is working properly?

2.) Is this included in the F1 diagnostic check?

3.) What would be a sign/symptom of a bad RAM card?

I had several instances where 2-3 cues would intermitently have a gobo change (that was not programmed into the cue).

BTW-I can not rule out OE (operator error).

Thanks--

John Adamson

The operating system and most of the show data is held in FLASH memory chips which are soldered to the main PCB. Recent changes are held in a battery backed RAM chip (NVR) which is again soldered to the main PCB. Checksums are used to verify the data integrity, so basically the desk either works or it doesn't, there are no test functions for the internal memories in the F1 panel test mode. Random corruption of odd bits of memory data would be extremely unlikely.

The main processor also uses a socketed DRAM DIMM module as it's working memory. The BIOS does some memory tests on this at startup, and if it's not working properly then the system doesn't start at all.
