I have a slightly unusual problem with a Frog DMX module.

The board is about a year old now, and has been in light use for a few shows in a local community centre, in conjunction with 2 Chillis and 1 Chilli Pro.

During the most recent show which just had its last showing today, we have had a problem with the DMX communication failing.

At random times, when no-one was changing anything on the board, or the dimmers, or anything to do with it, all lanterns would fade to black. The dimmers all reported "no data", and the board did not seem to indicate anything out of the ordinary.

Naturally I tried restarting the dimmers and board, and then doing full resets of them. This made no change. Instead after up to 30 mins (it failed many times and it was sometimes as little as 10 mins), the DMX communication suddenly started working again. Once again, no-one was interfering with any of the equipment.

Today, I noted that when the DMX failed, the LED on the DMX module of the Frog was not lit at all, but when it started working again, the LED came back on, regardless of whether the comms cable was connected or not.

I suspect that I have a duff DMX module in this Frog, but nonetheless, does anyone have any idea? I believe that this problem has only existed during the past month.

Thanks

If the green LED on the back of the desk goes out, this means that there is no DMX data on the lines. This could be because there is an internal intermittent fault in the desk (try waggling the XLR plug to see if anything changes), or there may be a short circuit somewhere in your DMX wiring. Although if the green LED is still out when you remove the XLR plug, the fault is most likely in the desk. Give Keith in our service department a call to discuss getting the desk back for a warranty repair.
