ertoalb Posted January 10, 2006 Report Posted January 10, 2006 Hi! I have been using a second hand Linebacker unit for quite a long period until Year 2001. Since then the unit has been stored away. Obviously, according to Murphy's Law, the PSU went lost and to solve the problem on the spot, the unit has been powered with a lab dual power supply unit. The Linebacker (my useful & powerful wokhorse) didn't showed any sign of life. Voltage was identical to specifications, so it was the polarity, the internal VARTA Battery is fully charged, but the display simply shows a black strip on the upper field, while still becoming backlighted at power up. The red led stays fixed and the keyboard is dead. It sounds like a EPROM has been erased but, at this point, I do not know which is the one to be investigated. I have already swapped the EPROM inside with another Zero88 EPROM, but with no avail. I remember that, occasionally, I have experienced the very same problem before, at the time i was using the original PSU, so I am quite amazed of such a situation. The problem at the time was solved simply power-cycling the unit but the very same method has no effect anymore. Not to be mentioned, I badly need this unit because of the specific features and I'll need it up and running within three weeks. I would prefere to fix it on my own to speed-up the repairing process. Any chance to get some help? And how can I order at once the original PSU? Is it possible to order directly from you? Best Regards Alberto Chinigo Quote
KWR88 Posted January 11, 2006 Report Posted January 11, 2006 Black bars on the display indicate that the processor is not running. This could be due to an actually fault main processor or one of the addressing IC having failed. It could also be a seating problem with the IC in the holder. You may also have a fault with the crystal not running. As for the PSU we can still obtain them and we can either put you in contact with your closest dealer or you can contact our sales dept direct.
