Desmond George Posted October 18, 2005 Report Posted October 18, 2005 How come we use old burglar alarm cable with a 5 pin xlr plugs and they work just fine then buy your best vandamme cable 268-401 and it wont work? Level 24 desk connected to beta pack 2 dimmers Des George Quote
Paul Posted October 19, 2005 Report Posted October 19, 2005 I think the part number you've quoted is an RS part number, not a Zero88 part number. All Zero88 cables are tested prior to leaving the factory. Have you buzzed through all the pins to check for shorts/opens? How long is the cable? Do you have a DMX terminator on the end of the line etc. etc.? Quote
Desmond George Posted October 19, 2005 Author Report Posted October 19, 2005 Yes the cable is from RS The cable is short 3.5 m I have checked pins with multimeter Pin1 connected to screen Pin2 red Pin3 black We don't have DMX Terminator how important is this? Des Quote
Brian Posted October 19, 2005 Report Posted October 19, 2005 Just checking but as well as testing that pin 1 is connected to pin 1, 2 to 2 and 3 to 3 have you tested for shorts between pins? Desmond George Posted October 20, 2005 Author Report Posted October 20, 2005 I have rechecked every connection each soldered joint each is going to the right pin.No short circuits Its a mystery Quote
Brian Posted October 20, 2005 Report Posted October 20, 2005 Hmm, very strange. Even if the cable was too capacitive, at 3.5m long it shouldn't make that much difference. Paul Posted October 20, 2005 Report Posted October 20, 2005 Very odd. On a short length of cable like that you would normally get away without a terminator. What are the DMX LEDs on the front of the Betapack doing? What DMX address do you have the Betapack set to? Does it all still work if you plug the old cable back in? Or did you dismantle the old cable to build the new one... Quote
Desmond George Posted October 20, 2005 Author Report Posted October 20, 2005 Hurrah issue resolved but still curious. There were 4 beta packs daisy chained together. By disconnecting them all annd just using the new cable it worked. Plugging just one of the old cables down stream and it didn't. Having an old one upstream and new one down stream and it worked. You probably have to have a PHd in impedance to work it out. Now have made completely new daisy chain all working just fine. Indeed still rather curious..... Thanks for your help. Des Quote
