Jester

The Jester is a new lighting console from Zero 88. It offers direct control of up to 48 channels of DMX either using submasters or a traditional theatre playback stack. 12 auxiliary buttons are provided which can be used to trigger DMX devices such as scrollers, smoke machines or strobes.

A monitor port is standard on the Jester. Channel, cuestack and submaster data can all be viewed using the monitor. An onboard LCD screen also provides the user with all information needed to operate the console allowing it to be used without a monitor.

A USB port allows users to back-up shows that have been recorded on the Jester.

A DMX in option allows the Jester to be used as an economical back-up console for other desks. It is possible to snap shot a full 512 channels of DMX into submasters or the memory stack.

The Jester has three modes, allowing it to operate as simple two scene preset desk through to a fully functional memory console. In playback mode the user has full access to all the channels on the console. This allows live changes to be made to specials instantly.

Midi notes can be used to trigger channels or submasters. A sound to light jack allows for chases to be sequenced to music. Chases can be recorded into the memory stack or directly into submasters.

The Jester provides users with a powerful set of programming and playback tools in an easy to use and economical lighting console.

Judging by the new consoles (Frog 2, Jester) you guys should look into the design of the console a bit more. No offence, but it seems a bit 1990's to me (anyone agrees?). The metal sidepanels look great on the latest console ranges, but the frontpanel does seem a bit outdated. On the software side the same goes for the DOS-style monitor outputs, though I don't know how they look on the newer consoles.

The consoles are great anyway, so why not make them look just as great ;)

Please remeber: no flame, no offence :)

Styling is always a contentious issue, difficult to please all of the people all of the time. The monitor screen on the Jester will be a text based screen like the Frog series, as providing a full graphical screen would have added significant cost to the Jester. We hope you'll like what we've done with the layout though, memories / submasters / outputs / preview all on the one screen.

Even DOS style screens can be styled a bit using some matching colour and smart layouts. I'm curious about the "one size fits all" screen layout though, wondering how you've done that without creating a total mess.

it does seem a bit old fashioned and the oversized buttons dont do the looks any favours. But on the other hand they would be good for beginners, like we all were once.(but without the console quality console of which i speak)

Hi folks,

@FrogGenius

Well, how to start.....? :?:

Like "Shake´s beer" Design or no design. I think people may start a discussion about colours and looks of an item, but a colour does not say anythink about the quality of a product. I suppose you find the faders and knobs perfect on a Frog desk....

ähm... the same hardware is used at the new jester. The reason is simple! These knobs and faders last for years and do their job.

:!: If you do not like colours of the jester why don´t you paint it the way you prefer? :P

cheers

The Jester will replace the Alcora and Elara when stocks are out.

Is this right? I saw this on a website that stocks Zero 88 can't remember which. Is this happening or is it just that particular supplier?
