it`s my first real go at trying lighting design, with very little formal training. somebody else will set the lighting rig up, i`ll sit at the frog and plot it for the show, usually the rigging`s pretty damn hot, so theres no need for a refocus or anything.

Anyway, theres a few issues regarding the frog i was wondering if you could help me out with, coz i`m a bit thick

1. Has it got a `top set`. As in being able to drop channel levels in the middle of playing back a set of scene memories. I`ve spoken to two more experienced people about it, both who have been using the frog for a while, one says there is absolutely no top set, the other says there isn`t, but you can do it `backwards`. (is that to set all the levels at their lowest usable settings upon plotting, and raise them with the subs} Only that sounds like trying to get around quite a large design flaw, and not creating a top set at all

2. Is there any way of mixing chases and scenes easily*q* without plotting 600 scenes for about 10 minutes of show...

Thats all. i`ll come up with a few more when i`ve done more complicated show. Taiko drummers and community plays have yet to test my skills. Haha.

NB - its a nice desk, btw. dead easy to use for beginners like me who`ve never plotted stuff before. thanks.

Hi Mike,

No, there is not a topset feature on the Frog range I'm afraid, however it has been logged for future consideration...

Frog Reference 5417 - Topset

The easiest way to mix scenes and chases is to stick your chases on a submaster, and put your scenes in the Playback X stack. You can overlay chases on any other cue.

hello everybody

what about another fancy function of good old sirius 250 (and i think even on sirius 24): it was called topset.

it was a way to reduce htp-output individually for each channel with a preset fader.

you would have a scene in the playback X or in a submaster. you like the output except the one single fresnel that shines onto the projection screen (which it shouldn't). now i want to leave the scene but reduce the level of this one fresnel.

(avolites have this as reduction faders, and celco used to have them as a knob on top of each channel (cf gain knob at a sound desk)

i know those desk do cost a lot more, it was just to prove that some other companies consider it to be a useful feature...

i don't know if i made myself clear, if not ask me, but if you did, then give it a frog reference no. ...

I aint posted on here in ages :? but ive got an idea, well actual its of another companys desk but i thought it would be very simple in terms of user interface 2 acheive this. MASKING

How many of u have had a fixture go nutts or get un-focus and nicely blind the audience, then have to go through every mem to remove then to re add it later when ya sorted it!!??? well wat if u held the channel flash button/fixture button and blackout at the same time, this selection of buttons will set those dmx channels to 0.

how would we know its been masked? well on the vga the channel could be a different colour? and the LED in the flash buttons flash very fast?

I need a new job

Hi,

I was wondering whether there was an easy way to allow access to the Topset levels on the Fat Frog.

Very often when working live (or even on a pre-programmed show), you need a quick method of topsetting as the memory has been programmed with something that really doesnt look good or a lamp blows on one circuit and the other one still works etc.

On the Illusion, you press the Topset button and set your level, this takes a mere seconds. On the Frog, you have to go to Super User mode and topset (I seem to remember) - and this takes tens of seconds.

Any plans to put this feature into the next release?

somekind of editing an memory output while another is running?

If you are referring to Edit Blind ... this was implemented in Version 9 .. CLICK HERE

Topset isn't yet implemented on the Frog series, but is already a feature request (Frog Reference 5417). We also have the following logged:

The number of official requests on this forum for a topset feature has crossed the critical amount of somewhere between three and five (approximately).

Hurray, it has a FRN-5417 !

(Remember that old gray desk? Although equipped with 512 digital outputs, only 1 to 24 ( /48 ) were topsetting. That will be sufficient.)

Also would love the topset....

Ahhh.. that gray desk.... sweet memorries, got mine 10 year ago, it had more then 6 faders... Oh wel teenage love... (When I learned lighting we just upgraded from a mobile 6 channel rig, to a fixed 18 channel grid with a sirius 24...)

A workaround is not possible.

It's the same problem when trying to correct a scene to decrease a certain channel level: recreate the complete scene on the faders (while reading the values from the screen, if connected), and then adjust the thing. My best time to complete a scene with 24 fader channels (while sying "mmmmmwwwwrrrrgggggggffffhhhhh") is approx. 53.9471826 seconds.

In my opinion, it's a shortcoming (...to difficult) and part of the system design. It's a club desk, and less a theatre desk. Program with care.
