Hi,

New to the forum and just posting to see if anyone might be able to help...

I use a Jester ML48 and have just purchased a couple of Martin ERA 150 Wash lanterns.

Previously I've just requested a new file for new fixtures not on the list (I have the last update installed).

However, my email request this time was met with a polite reply that included a file for FLX desks, which unfortunately doesn't help with my older desk.

Just wondering if anyone has already created a file for the Jester for this lantern - I have had a look at the fixture editor tool, but it is pushing my limited tech knowledge and ability and I'm not confident I can successfully create a new file that will work...

Thanks!

Welcome @Klang !

Point me at the manual pdf and which modes are your priority and I’ll have a bash tonight.

ETA: assume it’s this one. Looks like there is just an 18 channel mode?

Yea… with Edward and Keith leaving and Jon busy with his day job, support isn’t erm… what we’ve been used to… I hope it improves before too much customer damage is done.

Hi Kevin, thanks so much for your response. Support has always been brilliant in the past, but it does look as though there have been quite a few changes...

This is the manual for the ERA 150s - it is indeed just an 18 channel mode.

Priorities are really colour mixing, beam shape and position.

I really appreciate the offer of help!

Thanks, Ben

@Jon Hole what’s the current policy regarding library releases and support for legacy ZerOS and pre-ZerOS consoles?

I see on the Vari-lite website that there is no separate library release, the latest is bundled with ZerOS and only compatible with ZerOS 7.14.1 and later.

There used to be a separate library release file for each of ZerOS (including pre 7.14.1) and other legacy consoles like Jester (and Frog, but I’m aware of the splitting-for-floppy issue).

I realise support resource might be a bit tight at the moment but what is the current Vari-lite policy on this? Maybe you could make a statement on the main forum about this. If we have to ‘DIY’ from now on then at least we’ll know.

Thanks, Kevin

For all ZerOS consoles (excluding FROG2), we support GDTF files which can be downloaded straight from the fixture manufacture (or the GDTF Share site). If the fixture manufacture refuse to make a GDTF file available, first complain to them, but then use the various tools available - filtering & fixture creation directly in ZerOS, or the fixture builder on the GDTF site (or, last resort, the legacy Zero 88 fixture editor). If there's RDM, a basic fixture personality will automatically be created if there isn't on in the library.

For non-ZerOS consoles, if the fixture isn't already available, the Zero 88 fixture editor is available to easily and quickly create fixture files (remember most of these consoles, such as Jesters, do not use any of the details / images / colours etc. So they just need channel name & order, appropriate attribute, and the default value).

The above are, by far, the quickest options. Alternatively, email the Vari-Lite support team at entertainment.service@signify.com

Eeeeeek! No pressure! 😆

Ha! Didn't quite work out - some plonker had forgotten to set the DMX addresses so had wait until after the show run to get the ladders out. However, all done now and they are working perfectly - you are a star.

Both the Zero 88 Jester ML48 and the Martin ERA 150 Washes support RDM, so this should have been possible remotely over the cable.
