Charlie Newman Posted Sunday at 06:26 PM Report Posted Sunday at 06:26 PM So I recently created a custom fixture and set the default value on the strobe channel to 5, but it shows as two on the light when selected? No playbacks or cues are overriding it so I'm quite lost, any help would be appreciated Quote
kgallen Posted Sunday at 06:44 PM Report Posted Sunday at 06:44 PM Can you upload your fixture file? Not sure if you made it in the console or the Windows Fixture Editor. If the console I think there is a way to export it but I don’t know the format! Either that or share the manual and I’ll knock one up in the FE for you to play with. Quote
Davidmk Posted Sunday at 07:12 PM Report Posted Sunday at 07:12 PM @kgallen @Charlie Newman Hmm. A DMX value of 5 (out of 255) is pretty much 2 and I think the fixture profile works in DMX value while the display works in %. If in doubt check the manual and/or the DMX output window. 2 Quote

Ah yeah, that would make sense, thanks! Quote
kgallen Posted Sunday at 07:25 PM Report Posted Sunday at 07:25 PM Interesting. Intensity in % I understand. I thought other parameters would be their absolute value. Good call @Davidmk. Quote
Davidmk Posted Sunday at 07:25 PM Report Posted Sunday at 07:25 PM You're welcome. The acid test is "Does the fixture perform as expected?". Quote
kgallen Posted Sunday at 07:27 PM Report Posted Sunday at 07:27 PM Give me 10 to finish dinner, then I’ll knock something up in FE 2.6 and Charlie can see if it reports the same. Quote

kgallen Posted Sunday at 07:44 PM Report Posted Sunday at 07:44 PM OK give this a bash. On channel 3, I've added detail (which I made up). 0-4 is "Closed", 5 is "Default", 6-255 is "Open". Ch1 default (Dimmer [Intensity])=255, Ch2 (Wheel [Colour])default=0, Ch3 (Strobe [Beamshape])default=5 These are the "Details" for ch3: Let's see what comes up for the Strobe channel by default... Put this on a USB stick and just use "Load" to get it in the desk. Then you'll have to patch, Manufacturer="Charlie", Fixture="Followspot 3ch" Charlie_FS.ift 1 Quote
Charlie Newman Posted Sunday at 09:21 PM Author Report Posted Sunday at 09:21 PM Yup @kgallen, works like the other one (other than showing when closed/open), interesting that shows in %, personally I'd rather 1-255. Thanks for the help! Quote

Yea weird. I wonder if there is a desk setting for that. I know it’s a topic that comes up every now and again. Like you I would have expected the raw value for all parameters except intensity. I’ll have a dig through the ZerOS release notes. Quote
kgallen Posted Sunday at 09:52 PM Report Posted Sunday at 09:52 PM Well, wadaya know… ’percentages’ https://www.zero88.com/manuals/zeros/desktops-windows/output-window Quote
kgallen Posted Sunday at 10:01 PM Report Posted Sunday at 10:01 PM Looks like we were talking about it here: So the numbers on the encoder wheel are the raw value but the output window and any syntax uses percentage. Ok, that’s me all confused now! Quote
Davidmk Posted Monday at 02:41 AM Report Posted Monday at 02:41 AM I think the issue is that DMX values can run to a lot more digits than percentages. Allowing for all those digits in the screen layout would require less information visible and/or smaller fonts. Also if it was displaying 128 (for example) how would you know if that was 128 (50%) out of 255 or out of 65536 (20%). There is method in this particular bit of madness. The wheels show the DMX value by default. I have a feeling you can change that to % but I suspect most people change it back pretty quickly. 2 Quote
