sp Posted September 28, 2004 Report Posted September 28, 2004 This is very trivial, but i noticed it the other day... When we turn the desk on (latest software) it shows www.frogsupport.com on the main lcd. But sometimes, it shows www.fro support.com where the g is replaced by a black box. Why's this? Especially as it doens't always happen. sp Quote
Paul Posted October 1, 2004 Report Posted October 1, 2004 The standard 'g' that character LCD modules use is ugly. So we use our own special Zero88 'g' which looks much nicer. This is a user-defined character which is uploaded to the LCD module when the desk starts. Unfortunately character LCD modules were invented long before the dawn of time, and the documentation that comes with them is sketchy if not wrong. Some of the timing parameters are very variable and have to be discovered by experimentation. Uploading custom characters is such a case. If your particular LCD module varies from the norm by too much then it can intermittently miss the character upload, and hence display blank instead of the Zero88 'g'. Rebooting the desk will cause the custom characters to be uploaded to the LCD module again and clear the problem. Now aren't you glad you asked? Quote
