  1. I use them as do many of my clients, in fact i think it is a shame they have been missed off the FLX especially given the MFF support paging. how do you label multiple pages of faders with one strip of white tape? if you name the cues as part of your syntax it takes no more time than sticking white tape to your desk picking up a pen and then neatly writing what it does, I also find white tape very frustrating as you can never read what other operators have written, if on tour or for long running shows several operators will use the same desk, I find printed text much easier to read in the dark than someone's hand writing. What do you do if your venue runs one show in the day and then another of a night, swap the write tape to suite the show you have loaded? to say you can never fit enough text on them is odd when white tape can fit even less on it. to be honest it is a real shame the LFX is missing them and I would like them to appear on a mk2 or on the wings (as they I assume the wings are not in production yet) I think the DMX window as a layout can't really change as it is so simple and gives the exact feedback i need. I do like the idea of putting it as a tab within the output window this way I can simple toggle between the two (i never have both of these screens shown at the same time, unless its by accident) Another thing i use the DMX window for is when I have no lights or visualiser plugged into the console but want to test something, this is also handy on the phantom software when I am testing different ideas.
  2. Ok i think the best way to explain wide mode is to first eplain that in wide mode you treat the preset A and B fader banks as one collective bank controlling 1-48. By default when you first enter wide mode master A fader controls the master intensity of all 48 faders. Master B controls the stored preset values (curently none are stored). Now if you press the preset control button (just below the master A,B faders) this will now toggle the bank of 48 preset faders to be controlled by master B fader. But at the same time any values you had already set when master A fader was active are still stored under master A. This effectively allows you to cross fade over 48 channels. For egexample. GO into wide mode move both master A and B faders to the top most position (Master a at 10 and master b at 0 ) now bring up preset 1,2,25,26 you will see this output. now press the preset control button to toggle the preset faders to the B master (B is at 0 so these new values will get stored by the desk) No lower preset 1,25 bring up preset 23,24,47,and 48. note the output of the desk has not changed (this is because these new values are associated with master B ) now slide master A and B down together you will see the scene you set in master A crossfade into the new scene in master b. to continue you would press the preset control button again to associate the preset faders with master A again and now you would set your third scene ready for the cross fade. Hope this clears things up. Try the above example on your desk it should make sense if you try it rather than just reading it.
  3. Hi Jon. i mainly use the dmx window to ensure the desk is outputting the correct dmx value, handy when trouble shooting my rig If i have missed plugging something in or have faulty cables. The other reason i use it is that i can see at a glance if i still have effects running on some fixtures when in blackout. Basicaly i like the ability to get a very quick state of the values being output. The output window is good but only for intensity and selected fixtures. No good for a quick overview. Its a shame the hardware in the other existing desks limits the new resolutions,oh well never mind. is the available screens on the flx something you are still considering? Its just currently i do find all of the pallet windows (macros, groups,fx) and dmx output quite usefull, although i do appreciate the new features and methods introduced to the flx may change my mind.
  4. I am still intrigued by this desk and look forward to seeing it at the plasa event. Do you have a release date for the phantom flx? I think my main concern with this desk is the ui missing some sceens like dmx output. To be honest when i think about it this is the main screen i will miss as you seem to have changed some screens to have additional tabs like the effects generator. can you tell me will your other zeros desks also support new screen resolutions for bigger monitors?
  5. Yes thats right No. Both master A,B faders control the intensity for channels 1-48. (what master fader controls physical output depends what mode the preset control button is in) but in a nutshell the preset master faders control all manual channels 1-48 they do not split them into the two banks. hope i make sense on the last point.
  6. I agree. I was hoping the FLX was going to be between the solution and orb as you get the best of both command prompt and hands on dimmer/fader control (although i suppose this is what the ORB XF does) The reason i think you only get two screen layouts is because if you have a look at page 6 of the quick guide it shows the two screen layouts and also mentions "External monitor The optional external monitor can view one of two different desktops – “Programming” or “Palettes”." this makes me feel that a lot of features i like for instance DMX output, effects generator etc will be missing, or maybe this is something that will be toggled through the internal touch screen (for me not ideal). I am surprised at the cost, although this could be justified through R&D costs, new improved hardware like the integrated touch screen and processor. I would like two monitors to be connected to all of the desks running Zeros as there are so many screens that come in handy when programming, but given the LFX only has two layouts multiple monitors may be a bit over kill. I am not writing the LFX off completely. I will hold back until i get a chance to play with it hands on. but all of the literature suggests it is an entry level to Zeros. the fact it has command prompt i think is just because that is the way most lighting desks go these days. if you have the budget i would go with an ORB. if not i see your dilemma.
  7. Looking at the specs i would say it is the entry level into the Zeros operating system. so i would say it is not replacing any of the current consoles it just sits between the Jester and the Solution. Looking at the specs and quick guide it is missing some useful programming screens that both the ORB and solution posses. and instead gives the user just two easy to access screen layouts. also within the spec details it has less pallets ect. Note this is only my opinion and not necessarily where Zero88 officially want the product to be placed. take a look at page 9 of the Zero88 product brochure (link below) this shows a nice comparison grid of the different consoles available from Zero88. http://www.zero88.com/literature/Zero88_Eaton_Cat_UK_Issue22_01_2015.pdf
  8. Hi I asked a similar question some time ago regarding recording a macro to run a sub master on a specific page. the thread can be found here http://zero88.com/forum/topic/6629-recording-sub-masters-in-macros/ but in short, the answer is no! you cant record a macro to jump to a specific page as macros record button presses. On the solution desk the button press to get to a sub-master page is page up or page down. not like on the orb where you enter the command [X] Jon from Zero88 did say they are looking at renovating Macros inn the future, but not sure when this may be. Hope this answers your question.
  9. Hi I have just restored to V7.8.1.25 and tested the two modes on my desk and the behavior does not change. wide mode still uses all 48 dimmers 1-1 and preset mode uses two banks of 24 dimmers 1-1. same as described in the manual. i would try installing Zeros again. just a side note you do know that V7.8.1.25 is a beta version. also don't know if it is of any use to you but i have been using the latest Zeros V7.8.2 and have had no problems with refresh rates. although i have not used DMX in. Cheers
  10. Hi, this behaviour may, or maynot have been a bug in v7.8.1 I have never really tried this but for clarity i can check tomorrow. Regarding your last point. If you go into [settings] and select [desk setup] then select [behaviour] and under [preset mix mode] select htp. This will stop the preset faders being cleared from the programmer when the clear button is pressed twice. But please note that if you record a memory or sub then it will also record the preset values (depending what mode your desk is in will depend how it will record the presets) i think the main point is they are not independent of the programmer but will always take htp priority. It may be worth installing the latest software as some bugs have been fixed and i can definitely tell you that wide mode operates as wide mode in the new version. Hope this helps.
  11. Hi. I had this problem with an old leapfrog and it turned out it was a faulty fader that needed replacing As it had a lot of dust and grime in it. Having saiD that i would test the fader feedback before taking it to your local zero88 dealer. To check the feedback go to setup then select desk setup then event monitor. This opens a window that shows every event that the console sees. When in this screen slide the different sub faders up and down and see of the desk is seeing the correct input. If it is i suspect it is a software issue (re install the software) if the desk is seeing odd or incorrect input i expect it will be a hardware issue and you may need to replace the faders. Hope this makes sense and is of help to you.
  12. What version of zeros are you running? i have just checked one of my desks running zeros 7.8.2 and it works as it always has (As described in the manual) 2 preset gives you 24 preset fader channels in two banks,A and B. And when in wide mode you get 48 fader channels (banks A and B combined) this mode you have to store your preset in the console memory ready to cross fade Into. You could try resetting the desk in the clear options to see if that rectors the function back. Hope that helps. If not let me know the version and i will try on my desk again.
  13. Hi The intensity of the movers should be recorded as part of the sub. Are you clearing out the programmer before running the sub? If you have manually set the intensity to say 100% then this value will be held in the programmer and will take priority over subs Untill cleared. (This does however depend on the desk mode) Another thing that could be causing this is having the sm mode set to 'not release'. To access the sm settings you can hold down the setup button then press the flash button for the recorded sub. hope this helps.
  14. I think my main two questions would be, When is it due for release (will you be displaying it at the Plasa event in Leeds)? and how much will it retail for? other questions would be: is this the replacement for the frog 2 console? how many universes will it have, native, and how many will it support, how many monitors can be directly connected to the console (not remote) will the max Que stacks (1000) and sub masters (600) be the same as the orb? will this come with Midi and remote switch interface or will this be additional? Power supply built in like the orb or external like the solution? (built in is better for me) number of USB ports? Currently 4 is pushing the limit when using touch screen and powering wireless adapters other points of interest for me would be: Wireless network interface (in addition to LAN) would be amazing when using the remote app. what is the expected dimensions? (I tour a lot so size and weight is a deciding factor I look forward to the launch of this new desk if it is like the orb i expect good things, LOL no pressure.
  15. Looks interesting... so many questions,i think the main one (you will be able to answer) is will it be running zeros?
  16. hi. i think this is because you have (in your example) 1,2,3,4 preset sliders set to 50%, this setting is stored in the programmer, (subs and que stack will no longer alter the values) if you hit the clear button to clear the programmer then the subs will start working again. you can change the desk settings to use HTP (setup, desk setup, behavior, preset mix mode) this way what ever method has the highest value will output. however bringing the sub down completely (in your example) will only return the outputs back to 50% as the preset sliders are then the highest at 50%.
  17. As far as i know there is no direct way to do this. If your SM only contains 1 scene you can load the SM you want to copy into the programmer and then record it to the memory. Or anoth method i have used in the past iis just play back the SM then record the memory (you will need smart tag enabled for this method to work)
  18. Hi. If you mean the midi and switch interface then this is a separate pcb module that you can get from your local zero88 dealer. They should be able to fit it for you. But if you know what your doing i am sure you could do it yourself, however it may be worth checking if the DIY method will effect your warranty. A list of distributers can be found here http://zero88.com/distributors/index.shtml
  19. Thanks for the update Jon. I will look forward to testing the feature.
  20. I had a similar problem not so long ago i fixed the problem by re installing the software. But before you do i would follow jons advice above and also check the event monitor to see if the slider movements are actually seen by the desk.
  21. I agree being able to store multiple parameter groups in a palette could be useful but Ziglight's method if recording pallets is over complicate, by mixing/changing what the desk is actually recoding (tagged or default) parameters is crazy, I can only imagine the support calls this would create. a more intuitive interface like a trimmed down version of the orbs record options I think is needed. if not a 'record options' pop up then simply by holding shift down all tagged parameters are recorded otherwise only the default parameters in that group are recorded. this I feel is more intuitive as it is not moving the functionality away from the original method (and not confusing new inexperienced users) whilst still giving the other users the features you so like.
  22. If you record your effect into a sub, then go to the newly recorded sub setting (hold down setup the select the flash button on the submaster) you will see an option called 'sub controls' on the sub setup screen, select this and you will be shown several options, one of them is effect. This will control the effect in relation to the sub, although i am unsure if this will work as you intend I hope it gets you closer to a solution.
  23. Thanks for clearing the confusion, I will look forward to the fix again.
  24. the main point with this behaviour on the solution is that the pallets are grouped into position, beam shape and colour, but irrespective of what type of pallet you are in it records all parameters. I would expect that if you are in the position pallets it should only record the position parameters (no including intensity), when in the beam shape pallets the desk should only record the beam shape parameters. like wise for colour. the problem I have is that all of this information is being recording against the pallet irrespective of what group you are in. for instance in the latest version if I have programmed a scene using position, colour and beam shape and I want to record that position as a pallet for later use I then have to un-tag 17 Parameters just to ensure I only record the X,Y position. This I would say is a bug, otherwise these are not pallets grouped by parameter type, they are just UDKs to recall a scene for the selected fixtures. If it is no longer being treated as a bug then may be the hardware layout will need changing to reflect this change. (a position pallet is no longer controlling just the position it is controlling everything) Although this Just my thoughts and I may be wrong, just seems very bizarre.
  25. I see your point with the safety net, I have been court out by that in the past. although doing a lot of live work I still like the option to clear the programmer without the fixture selection. SHIFT+CLEAR is a good combination I would vote for that method.
