  1. But how could the computer take over the control in case of console failure (let*s say power-supply fails for instance)?

If the Console fails and there is no artnet involved, how could the Computer "output the show"? At least my PC does not have DMX universes. And even if it would have: You would need to merge the DMX wires from the console with the wires from the console to continue playback.

  2. Hi@all,

today I*d like to ask a question regarding a backup scenario for ZerOS consoles (in this case OrbXF):

I read, that you can unlock the Phantom software with a dongle to use phantom as a " tracking backup solution to the main desk.".

But how would that look like?

If my console would stop working, how could I continue my show with a PC or laptop? I guess only, if I use artnet with both, PC and console, right?

Any idea or hint is welcome as usual ;-)

    Thank you and best regards

    Sven

  3. Hi everybody,

I'd like to ask you some questions about how to work with playback- faders on an ORB XF:

How can I assign a specific cue stack to a playback fader of my choice (of course only on of the button 20)

For example if I want to have cue stack 201 on fader 1 and cue stack 43 on fader 2 (and so on).

Or is it only possible to have cue stacks 1-20 on those faders?

2nd question: How can I delete/ unassign a stack from a fader again

3rd Question: How can I "Stop" a cue stack of a specific fader (I mean really "stop" and not just pause. BTW: how do I pause a stack on a fader 😀)

4th Question: Can those faders have different functions (like cross fade between cues) or is it only possible to have them as master fader for the stack?

I guess so far that's it for the start 😉

Thank you in advance for your answers.

    Best regards

    Sven

  4. Hi Jon,

I didn't have an event since then, so no: No problems so far.

Since the desk was completely frozen (meaning really nothing was reacting on anything), I guess ZerOS wasn't able to offer me something at this point in time. After reboot it also didn't offer something, but worked completely normal.

The iPhone IP I really can't tell. I didn't note in as the freeze happened and if I will connect now, I'm pretty sure it won't receive the same Address again, because we have quite short lease- times configured.

So you really suggest to use a static IP for your iPhones (or whatever remote- unit)? Seems quite unusual for a client- device to me (consoles are always static at our site).

The network is not dedicated to the lighting stuff. It's also used for Sound remote control (not Sound data!) and some venue- stuff (like "crestron" or "gira").

But from my point of view, I can't see why this should have been caused by network.

a ) there was no remote unit connected to the desk and

b ) the very same network worked for years now without any issue. Only difference was switching from Leapfrog to ORB XF.

Is there running any "logging" on the console that maybe could be exported manually, that could help investigate (since the core is a linux- derivative, maybe some dmesg, messages or something like that)?

Since I'm coming from IT- world, I know it's hard to investigate an issue without data but unfortunately I can't deliver anything more :-(

    Best regards

    Sven

  5. Hi Jon,

No, I didn't try to recreate the issue with connected iphone, because there wasn't one connected while the desk stopped working.

But this is the network configuration:

    Desk: 192.168.178.37/24 (static IP)

    Router: 192.168.178.1/24 (static IP)

iPhone: can't tell because of DHCP

But I can tell, that in all our test before we never faced an issue with remote- control.

    Best regards

  6. Hi,

at our venue, we recently received a new ORB XF (previously we ran a Leap Frog 96).

Yesterday we had our first event with it. It was a very tiny event with just a couple of dimmer channels on some submasters - so no really "hard work" for any console.

But in the middle of the event, I clicked the "help" button to look after some topics, scrolled a bit up and down in the index and suddenly the whole desk was completely frozen!

I wasn't able to do anything with the Desk. Everything "looked" fine, so all screens were still there and (thank God) all DMX were still given out, but I couldn't do anything with it. I couldn't click on anything (either with touchscreen nor with trackball), fader movements on the submasters didn't change anything on the DMX output, and even the clock stopped ticking.

I tried to reach the desk from outside with iphone and ipad, but there was no connection possible anymore.

At the end of the show I switched the desk off and on again and everything worked completely fine again.

Unfortunately I was not able to reproduce the issue.

Does anybody have an idea for that?

In near future we ill have a series of large events and I'm really afraid for them, now.

regarding to "System info", I'm running OS Version 7.8.1.2 28/3/2014 LNX and Software Version 7.8.2.4

    Best regards

  7. Hello everybody,

I have a problem with saving things to Palettes. I don't know, if it is a problem with phantom only, because I don't have the Leap Frog here, at the moment.

    Here is, what I tried:

    - Select a Fixture (I tried with a MAC 250 Entour)

    - change the Pan/Tilt Position with the Encoders (Programmer and DMX output show the right behavior)

    - Select the Position MFKs

    - Press and hold a free MFK for some seconds

    - clear the programmer

After those steps, I can't use the stored Position. It even looks wrong on the Palettes Screen on my Monitor.

the default Position, which is available looks like

    1 P

    [Home

    Position]

    and is marked as "Available"

    The new "Button" looks like

    2

    Position 2

and is marked as "Not Available"

So it even don't recognize the right Attribute :-(

Could anybody tell me, what 'm doing wrong?

    Kind regards

    Sven

  8. Hi Jon,

that sounds verry interessting for me. Unfortunatly, I can't find, what you descrieb on my iPad remot.

Could you please give me a hint, where to find the MFKs on the remote?

Or did you mean to use the MFKs on the "virtual console" of the remote and user the MFKs, as you would on the physical console? That would be verry hard to use, because of these very, very tiny buttons (specialy on a remote for the leat frog 96)

Perhaps you could describe ir for dummys, again ;)

    Kind regards

    Sven

  9. Hello@all,

In my Opinion, it would be very, very, very (... ;) ) useful to be able to zoom into the desk view. I plan to use the Ipad as a remote for the Leap Frog 96 and that is hardly to use, because this is a verry wide desk!

    Kind regards

    Sven
