The forum software has been upgraded... let us know if you see any issues 🙂

We expect the forum to be offline at various points tomorrow (Thursday 11th May 2023).
We’ll be back online as soon as possible!

you guys belong to Vari-lite aka Philips now
20 minutes ago, Edward Z88 said:We are indeed part of Vari-Lite. Not Philips though - Vari-Lite are owned by "Signify".
As @Edward Z88says, Vari-Lite are NOT part of Philips, we are part of Signify. Philips announced it was splitting off it's lighting division back in 2014. Temporarily it was called "Philips Lighting", but in May 2018 the name changed to Signify - so five years ago and two years before Zero 88 joined Signify (in March 2020).
ZerOS 7.9.8, 7.9.9, 7.10, 7.11, 7.12 and 7.13 have all been launched in that time - so I don't think there's any worry about reduced software development 🙂

Thanks Mike, we've forwarded these onto our IT team to investigate. Sorry that we're still experiencing the problems Â

I'm afraid that the FLX power supply  could have problems.
The full-size FLX has protection on the USB ports - if a device tries to pull more power than is allowed, power to the USB port will be cut off to protect the stability of the main console. That said, you obviously don't want your Wing or Mouse to suddenly cut out, so we'd always recommend a powered external hub.

I'm still getting the annoying "Can't edit, it's been too long" message
Grrrr. Can you send me a screenshot please?

The other option would be a piece of show control software, such as QLab (although that’s macOS only) which can play the Thunder sound effect and automatically trigger the Lightning lighting effect over OSC.

Will the proposed OSC implementation be able to do that?
For now, it's our intention to receive OSC, not transmit. This aligns with our other triggering protocols such as MIDI and Vision.Net.

It's led me to think about our Macro's window, along with the size of the soft buttons in that window, too.

Ok, if necessary, i can send you the manual of the Linear Led, cause perhaps there is something wrong in the way we've created them with the fixture editor, and i'm sure you know better then me how to do it correctly.
If ZerOS was outputting the values we expected, but the fixture wasn't responding correctly, that would be helpful... however, in this situation, ZerOS isn't outputting the values we'd expect when you select a Colour Filter so, at this stage, we don't need the manual - but thank you.

Hi @Davidmk - would be interested to hear what you have planned with OSC. What would you like to achieve? What other tools / software will you be using with FLX over OSC?

Thanks for sharing Thierry. Sorry you're seeing this issue.
There's nothing I can see that's causing an issue, so I've passed this onto the software team to review (reference ZOS-11458).

Nice try but when I followed the link you gave I got this
This thread is from November 2019, it's not recent and it was pre-merger with Vari-Lite.

We'll take a look, but this showfile has gone from ZerOS 7.9.4 to ZerOS 7.13, so a LOT has changed - nine software updates across almost 5 years!
It's almost certainly related to the major changes to SETUP in ZerOS 7.9.5. The release notes had the following text:
QuoteCompatibility
Due to significant changes throughout ZerOS, especially within SETUP and Effects, showfiles created within ZerOS 7.9.4 or earlier should be thoroughly tested before being used in show-critical situations. Most showfiles saved in ZerOS 7.9.5 will not be entirely backwards compatible with earlier versions of ZerOS.Â

Hi Thierry,
Can you share your showfile please so we can take a look?

I'm not sure a ZerOS show file has ever had the extension .isf
Showfiles saved in ZerOS had the filetype .isf right up to ZerOS 7.9.8 when it changed to .zos

I have ... set my eDMX4 PRO IP Address to ... my FLXS48 settings
You can't have two IP addresses the same on the network... you need two unique IP addresses, but that are within the same subnet.
So, for example 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.0.2

Hi Gray,
The blue bar is the command line, not a scroll bar. To scroll, just use your cursor as if it’s your finger - click-and-hold on the buttons and drag left/right.
You’re viewing the LCD window, which is emulating the internal built-in screen on the console - therefor it’s fixed at a specific resolution and cannot be changed.

is there anything interesting in the Neo software that you think might make it’s way into ZerOS?
The two platforms are vastly different in many ways, both from a user's perspective and a development perspective (written in different languages, compiled for different operating systems, etc). Now that we're all one team we regularly compare and contrast the two platforms and share ideas. There's plenty that ZerOS can learn from Neo and there's plenty that Neo can learn from ZerOS. That said, the two systems fulfil significantly different purposes - a benefit which we're keen not to loose - which means Neo has some features that will never come to ZerOS, and ZerOS has some features that will never come to Neo.
Â
2 hours ago, kgallen said:I’m assuming Neo isn’t developed in the UK so Simon isn’t the software guy for it.
Not in the UK, but in the Commonwealth 🙂 Interestingly, the software that Neo was originally based on was exclusively sold by Zero 88 and actually used the old Zero 88 Library, so there's been a full circle! Vari-Lite now own both code sets and employ all the relevant developers!

I would have thought in this scenario the GUI should have presented the current value.
Added a comment to ZOS-8756 which is related to various updates to the Edit DMX Address window... but it won't be for ZerOS 7.14, sorry.

the numeric dialogue box doesn't present the existing value. The number field is blank. After a bit I realised just pressing Enter kept the existing DMX address, but that box should really be showing that number (with the usual convention of having it selected for overtyping) rather than presenting a blank box.
This is deliberately blank to indicate that the DMX Start Address is not going to be changed unless you enter a number (for situations like you describe, where you want to change the universe but not the start address).
We can think about if we can make this more clear. Maybe if all the selected fixtures are addressed sequentially, in order, with no gaps, we could show the address (as in this scenario there would be no difference if we did or didn't renumber them), but all other situations they remain blank.
Â
14 minutes ago, kgallen said:Same for the universe number - the numeric box should be prefilled with the exiting number, not blank.
This is pre-populated and selected for me - not for you? Actually, I'd say this is "wrong" currently, as if I select two fixtures on two different universes, I'm only shown the first universe number.
