  1. When working with fixtures, unless the channel is a dimmer channel, bringing up a programmeed submaster will snmp (or fade up if a fade time is set) to the recorded values, unless the fixture has a dimmer channel. Submasters are only able to adjust dimmer channels up and down . Its been a while since ive used the fixture editor software as i run a linux machine, but it may be possible to create a new fixture file which has the r g b and intensity channels set as a dimmer, that way if it is recorded on submasters it will behave as you want.
  2. Thats a good idea. thankfuly in the venue i work in we only have 8 fixtures which makes it easy. 4 on the top row and 4 on the bottom row
  3. Welcome to the forums. Its not as daunting as it first seems, once you get to understand how things work and get yoiur head rouynd the desk. best way is to start playing and learn as yoiu go. list your equipment and i can give a rough guide. Im not a ighting engineer but through working inhouse in a venue that only has 1 engineer to do both sound and lighting ive picked up alot. Generaly par can dimmers (for me anyway) go first. we have 2 dimmer units which take u p 6 channels each. first dimmer unit is set to start at dmx adress 1 then the 2nd set to 7 we also have some scanners. 4 which are 4 channel and 4 which are 6 channel. so those get assigned with a starting address and each next unit set at the next free dmx address. so say the 4 channel light starts at 100, the next 1 will be set to 104 (as each unit uses 4 dmx channels. so 100 101 102 103 are used by the first unit) patching dimmers on the desk is easy, simple ass assigning numbers to channels on the desk. when it comes to lights with more functions like scanners, scrollers, moving heads etc its a little bit different but not too difficult. Read the manual section fictures. the desk has configurations for alot of fixtures so it can be as simple as selecting the fixture, assigning it to the fixture section then giving it a dmx address. if your moving lights are less commen, you may need to make a fixture file, which you can do with simple pc software and load it to the desk with a usb memory stick. first thing to do probably would be to update the desks os
  4. im not familar with scrollers but you would want to set your scroller to a differnt address than your dimmer channel otherwise bringing up your dimmer channel would also control the scroller at the same time. depending on how many lamps and scrollers you are using may depend on weather you want to have all your lamps on faders and the scrollers as fixtures, or if there are few you could just have dimmers and scrollers patched to faders. Im pretty sure there are generic fixtures for use with scrollers.
  5. I just recently updated to the new software. I had submasters programmed that after the update did not work yet all of my memorys in scene memory work fine. I reprogrammed the submasters for the cans which worked fine, but on 11 i deleted the old and put a new in and now its not working again but now it cannot be deleted. Im wondering if its somehow become corrupted from updating or if its some kind of bug. Ill be starting from scratch today and see if it fixes the problem.
  6. Chase sequences dont work on multifunction submasters for me. Patiently waiting on the new software.
  7. Our venue has an old lightmaster xls which has served well. Several months ago a touring sound engineer plugged in his outboard into the same 4 way that the desk was plugged in and blew the 4 ways fuse. After that dmx stopped working on the desk. Our dimmers are fine and so is the smoke machine and moving lights. If i hooked up the desk directly to a dmx device it seems not to be recieving dmx. we purchased a replacement desk (jester ml24) but it would be nice to be able to use the old desk aswell hooked through the jester. Is this an easy fix?
  8. You can create your own fixture file using zero 88 fixtures tools. Its on the cd that came with the desk or you can download it from the website. You can use a generic fixture already in the desk aswell. The desk now supports virtual intensity, meaning that a fixture that only has rgb chanels can have a virtual channel that scales these 3 channels to give you an intensity channel
  9. Yes the jester will run these, though the problem is that led par cans use usually at least 3 dmx channels. We have led cans that are 4 channels per can so for 8 front cans and 8 back cans this ends up being alot of channels. The jester only has 24 channe;s on 2 layers or 48 if you have the bigger version. You could make up your own fixture file for them, and control them via fixtures., then use that to set them up and store in subgroups.
  10. I somehow managed to programme a chase sequence accidentaly into a beamshape pallete, which now cant be deleted. Over writing it doesnt work either, the steps of the chase are still there. Any recorded beamshape over that one sometimes works and sometimes doesnt. Could possibly be a bug. Only option is to use setup to clear palletes and subs.
  11. Ive just noticed a rather annoying feature with fadetimes. If i have a scene memory selected that has a fade time set. This will also effect submasters which becomes annoying, especially if the fade time is long. Is there any way round this? Ive tried editing the submaster so its set to snap but having a scene selected with fade times overides it.
  12. Thanks for the reply, just in the nick of time, we have a lighting engineer for tonights gig and he will be the first to use the fixtures since we got them .
  13. Tried again today, problem still exists, i even tried programming each light with the fx engine seperatly and recorded that as a seen. Best i got was 2 out of 3 lights moving. Id really like to get this working soon, as the fx engine can gets some really nice smooth movements that just cant be done with programming chases manually with our scanners. Edit, have uploaded the ift file for the scanners (made by myself for img stageline scanners, 4 leds and 4 regulars, the leds are 4 channel and the regs are 5) and my showfile that i was working on. I have a serious of scene memorys for the led scanners that work perfectly when programmed with the fx engine. The last memore (20) was used to program the regular scanner with the fx engine but only effects 1 light instead of 3. Curiously if i programm an effect into a pallete it works perfectly. Just not in scene memory. IMG.ift TWIN01.JML
  14. It would be nice to have the pan/tilt feature. I use moving lights that dont do that. We have ours in each cornor of the stage pointing in towards the center so the left ones pan opposite to the right ones. using fan mode works, but only with 2 fixtures at a time, if i select all 4 it doesnt work. Just had a thought, maybe i should repatch them so that the 2 on the left are in the middle in relation to the patch. Damn there goes all my programming!!
  15. When we first got this desk i used it with v1 of the software, submasters 13-24 were on the second layer. Then we installed 2, now you got 10-24 on multifunction keys. It was a bit odd at first but it was great to have those other submasters without having to switch page. Well, now that we have moving lights which is also on the mullti function keys i really cant use the other submasters as i need to have palletes to hand so i can change gobos and colour and turn the beams of when required (our moving lights dont have dimmer channels, its either on or off via the gobo weel) Would it be possible to have the option of returning the submasters to the way they were in v1? Also, chase speeds seems a little sensitive, it only takes a little moving to have quite a big change in speed, especially at higher speeds. Showing the speed in bpm would nice too. Oh i have also noticed that adjusting chase speed while a chase is running causes the chase to momenterily stop, which is annoying when you have to change the speed live and your movers suddenly stop and sometimes go back a little.
