Enjoy your time off @Edward- Z88
You must be sick of David and myself and our midi crusade 😅
If you add a CC option to playbacks or channels do we not still end up with an option that is frustrating as a 3rd party controller may output both CC and note info but we will have to choose which these we decide to use .
Now I have Capture duet edition I was planning to write some Macros (I've steered away in the past as they can't be edited ) Do we not already have Midi note control of Macros as soon as they are assigned to a playback?

Hi Chris,
Currently, the draft specification for this would be similar to how MIDI Notes is now, in terms of it is simply mapped 1:1. There wouldn't be any means of mapping MIDI CC to individual faders - CC 20 would be channel 20, or playback 20, depending on whether CC is set to Channels or Playbacks control in Setup -> Triggers.
You would therefore still be able to achieve controlling playbacks with Notes and CC, and in your MIDI package you can just control a playback with whichever method works for you.
These CC levels would mix with the playbacks, in exactly the same way FLX with a Wing does, when FLX and Wing are both on the same page.
As I said, this is initial draft specifications. No plans yet. OSC implementation may come first.
Hope this helps,
Edward
Hi @Edward- Z88 thanks for your reply. Just to clarify the Zero88 plan would be to globally choose CC or Note control not choose the control method for each playback or channel? I agree with @Davidmk something like the remote switches functionality to allocate control would be great

Hi @Davidmk@Uriahdemon and @Edward- Z88
I've done a bit of work within Lightjams software converting midi CC data to Midi note data. After sorting that out it became clear that I really hadn't understood ZerOS processing of Midi notes. As the velocity information is used to determine the fade up time, as soon as I move a CC fader the FLX playback triggers with a fade up time that relates to the position of the CC fader on the midi controller. Now that I understand this I can work with a pad controller and keep anything that I want flexible control of on page 1 Something like this
Beam fixtures intensity controlled by a MFF fader page 1
Beam Colour changes page 4 triggered by Launchpad
Beam effects page 4 triggered by Launchpad
Beam Effect size controlled by a MFF fader page 1 (I can then make the beam sweep bigger or small during a show)
Edward can you tell me how software tracker reference number ZOS-10271 might work. I know I might looking for a very personal vision of how I use my FLX and I'm always open to see how other people might use it but I would want the ability to assign induvial CC's to certain MFF eg some playbacks triggered by midi notes and some controlled by CC's

Hi @Davidmk@Uriahdemon and @Edward- Z88
Looks like you guys are putting a power of work in to this. I agree though my Dymo looked nice all printed out but it is peeling off!

Hi David & Chris,
Most MIDI fader banks, send their fader levels over the MIDI Control Change (CC) protocol. ZerOS currently doesn't support this protocol, however it is on our software tracker as a potential future enhancement (software tracker reference number ZOS-10271).
The three MIDI protocols currently supported in ZerOS are Timecode, Show Control and Notes. I am not aware of such a device, but it could be possible that when a MIDI fader hits a certain level, it fires a MIDI Note, allowing you take advantage of MIDI fader handles purely to trigger ZerOS.
If you have any questions let us know.
Edward
Hi Edward and David,
Sorry I'm a couple of days behind on these posts. Thanks for the CC info. I have access to a Novation launchkey that sends CC information from rotary controls so I will see if I can get Lightjams to map CC info to midi note info. I'll get back to you soon.

Hi David, I'm not sure yet but check out Luke Strattons video to see what I'm going for https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tRlJN1LALFk&t=421s In the lightjams software everything is configurable / programable so I'm sure it will work. I need to get on ebay for an APC 20 or 40. The pads on a 40 are RGB configurable so it might be a nicer result.

Sounds like @Davidmkmethod is simpler as it removes the need for the laptop and additional software. One less thing to fail is always good (Like David my method was also tedious )
My next project is to try using an Akai APC20 and assign faders to parameters to give a bit more flexibility while busking shows

Thanks Edward. Personally I always found your videos very helpful especially the short Christmas ones. We are all very good about asking you guys for manuals/videos/advice so the least I could do was put a bit of effort in. I will edit and add to this as it starts to get some proper action.

I wanted to get this up before the training on the 30th in case anyone had particular interest in midi . The video is too big to upload here so it's now on Youtube https://youtu.be/GQCX_Ww1YbM
Over the past couple of months I’ve been chipping away with this FLX midi note project. I had a bit of a boost to get this finished when I saw the LD at a recent Cage the Elephant gig running macros on his Grand MA from a launchpad.
I spend a lot of my time busking bands and I like to keep my intensities, speed, variable position and effects on page 1. The aim with this project was have access to 86 playbacks without moving FLX pages, 24 on page 1 of the FLX and 62 via midi pads.
Basic set up (Not covered in this post)
A midi controller with the addition of a usb to Midi interface (Zero88 recommend MOYT FastLane Interface) will trigger a FLX without additional software but the buttons on the midi controller will not provide any feedback (eg light up) and it will be mapped midi pad 1 to playback 1 or however the midi controller comes set up from the manufacturer (I think A Novation Launchpad comes out of the box with the bottom left pad set to midi note 12 (also known as C0) so it would trigger playback 12)
My Set up
Software This is required to map the buttons on the Launchpad to any playbacks on a FLX. And to set the colours of the pads and how they react when used with a FLX. I chose to use Lightjams https://www.lightjams.com/ The free version is fully functional and allows you to experiment but hangs for 30 sec every 15 min. There are other software applications that can map midi notes that you may want to look at.
Hardware
Novation Launchpad MK2
Steinberg UR22 MkII USB Audio Interface with midi ports (any quality USB to midi interface would work but I already owned the Steinberg. Zero88 recommend the MOYT FastLane Interface. Do not use the cheap ones on internet auction sites. They probably won’t work!)
An old laptop
1x midi cable
2x usb cables
Dymo label printer and a roll of clear printer roll
Why did I use this set up?
In the event of tech issues I wanted I system that could be ignored and revert to the FLX to control playbacks directly
I chose the Novation Launchpad mk2 as the buttons could be programed in RGBW rather than the 4 colours on the launch pad mini mk2 (in this project I only wanted to trigger playbacks eg send a 100% signal however it is possible to control levels on a MFF from a midi controller with midi faders or via the intensity of a tap on a pad)
I have programmed the Lightjams software to provide variable static colours to each button. I can group buttons by colour e.g. I have a square of pink buttons which control various attributes of my beams like position, effect, colour strobe (with intensity kept on page 1 of my FLX)
Once a pad is pressed to activate a playback it turns bright red to indicate it has been pressed. Through the Lightjams software It is on a toggle setting so once the button is pressed again to take the Playback back to 0 the Launchpad button returns to its basic programed colour.
I have attached my Lightjams .ljp file. Feel free to play with it. Lightjams is a lighting control program that works like nothing else I have ever seen. There is no detailed documentation but the French developer is helpful. I got myself totally lost numerous times! I have added a number of virtual sticky notes on the Lightjams control screen to give you some pointers to what you are looking at and where the data comes from.
I would have loved to have videoed this in my venue with the lighting rig in full gig mode but we are in lockdown so the video is rather basic but you should be able to see the potential of the set up. Excuse the slightly shaky video work, holding a camera and triggering cues is not the easiest thing.
Cheers

Don't forget if you need a USB to midi link your school may have external sound cards that include USB & midi in the music room. I use an old Steinberg UR22. It's worth a look if you can borrow one for nothing.

Cheers good to know. I was trying to run page 5 upwards via midi. Explains why I was hitting a brick wall.

Thanks Edward,
So is that the first 128 playbacks only with no way of pushing the start point up the playback list.
Chris

Hi Zero88 team,
Hope you are all staying safe in these difficult times.
Can you confirm how playbacks are numbered for midi purposes (for info my FLX set to midi channel 1). My understanding is that there are 128 notes in each midi channel, therefore If playback 1 is midi note 1. Does playback 129 get pushed up to Channel 2 midi note 1?

Cheers Kevin, Thanks for that.

Thanks Edward.
I'm happy to have a go at this, I could do with keeping my hand in. If I do this do gobo images have to be 25x25 pixels?
Ch5 no strobe info
Ch7 There is no gobo info
Ch13 No reset info appearing on the beam page
ch14 No lamp control
On further inspection the colour wheel on Ch4 might be more complex than I first thought. The fixtures have 3 possible settings available on their control panel 1 Linear Colour. 2 Full Colour and Rainbow effect . From combinations of having these on or off it gives 6 different variations of the way Ch4 behaves. The Clay Paky manual doesn't make it easy but I have attached it if that helps
And the brochure has some better images of the gobos https://www.claypaky.it/media/documents/Alpha300_Brochure_EN.pdf
Cheers

Does anyone have their own Clay Paky Alpha Beam 300 (Vector mode) fixture profile? The one on the Fixtures database has a fair bit of data missing. I'll re write one but just in case some one has done all the work already I thought I would ask.
Cheers

Hi Edward you were spot on. There was position data recorded as well. I deleted the cue and rerecorded with effect data only. Had I wanted to edit the position data ,in your previous reply you said "hold VIEW and press the playback button. You can then edit the position fade time." is that a shift option in the position window?
Chris

Thanks Edward and KGAllen I will check that out tomorrow and report back

Hi Folks,
I have programmed a MFF's to introduce a figure of 8 effect on a group of fixtures. The fader is set to control the "effect" so the further the fader is raised the speed and amount of effect is increased. Once the MMF is in the required position the result is as I expected. However when the fader is moved from 0 to 25% for example(which will result in a small slow figure of 8 the fixtures make an initial fast movement copying the speed I have moved the fader. The visual result is that the flown fixtures are pointing towards the stage they shoot 30 degrees to stage left then a figure of 8 takes over. I compensate for that by raising the MFF very slowly so it appears to the audience to be part of the figure of 8. Although when busking a show its easy to forget and get it looking a bit rubbish.
Thoughts?
Chris
-
Thanks Edward. That explains it
Chris

I have a figure of 8 movement effect on a MFF, with the fader controlling the amount of effect On another MFF I have the new Blue sparkle effect with the fader controlling the amount of effect.
When I have the figure of 8 running and introduce the Blue sparkle the fixtures stop moving. I'm thinking its not a HTP or LTP issue as I don't want either MFF to have priority I want them to control 2 effects independently. Can I do this?

Great work David, I will post a photo of my shoe box size switch box (it is a no solder option though) Edward why does the keyboard only do the first 6 buttons?
Chris

Hi Edward,
Thanks for that. I'm going to have a run through all my playbacks to see how everything else is working.
Cheers
Chris

Thanks for your work on this David. Looks like we are trying to achieve very similar things. I had plugged in my Micro Korg just to see how it all worked and will probably purchase a Novation Launchpad and let you know how it all works out.
Cheers
