  1. This will be the case in all consoles, regardless of whether they have ‘sub fixtures’ or not. Agreed that such beasts are likely to be easier to assimilate if the console does support a sub fixture concept.
  2. We have to be careful with that Iiyama page because not all of those monitors support DVI-D required by FLX. The following URL includes the filter for DVI, although it's still not clear to me if this implies DVI-D is supported, since FLX does not output DVI-A. Anyway, this gets us closer to picking a compatible touch screen: Iiyama Capacitive Touchscreens with DVI in Black BUT even with the DVI filter applied above, the page is listing monitors without DVI inputs. I just clicked on the T1732MSC-B5X for instance, returned by this search, and DVI is not listed as an input interface. BEWARE! Alas, when you find one with DVI, it seems the 15", 17" and 19" are the same price, if not more than the 22" Edward quotes above (in the UK at least).
  3. Any "sub-fixture" support of a console is not going to change how many DMX channels are used. Number of DMX channels required is a function of which fixture features you want to be able to control from the console. Sub-fixture support is purely about how the console presents the elements of a fixture on the UI and how it can use them in e.g. effects engines. No console "saves" DMX channels by supporting the concept of "sub-fixtures".
  4. Excellent, thanks!
  5. Oooo, thanks Edward! However you might need to help me narrow it down a bit! They have a huge range of monitors don't they! Re 15.6", is it only the two 15.6" ones or would I just be looking for one with "P-Cap" or "Projective Capacitive" since there are quite a few 15" described like that. What about aspect ratio? Anyone want a lightly used Iiyama resistive touchscreen?! Thanks, Kevin
  6. Is there a smaller version of this new capacitive touch screen more like the size of the resistive one? I don’t have desk space for a 22”. Kevin
  7. I'll have filled it up by Monday morning 😈
  8. I think I've had this "issue" before too. So, sorry to sound like a broken record Edward, but this it yet again a valuable nugget of information, so please make another of your KB "How To:"s 🙂 Also whilst I'm being a pain, and watching your "Programming cues onto playbacks" video - that tip to set your playback button to Go (Snap) to "prep in dark" the fixtures ready for raising the fader - that definitely needs to be a How To: too!
  9. 🤣 ... duly hidden away under Legacy Consoles -> Orb XF! 😂 Thanks!
  10. Edward - you should start a "How To" list on the KB of "how to do kool things" and add this to it.
  11. Cheers Edward. I would just bring the FLX into the house and plug into a spare port on a switch on my house network (192.168.x.x), so sounds like with DHCP it should be easy to play. Thanks for the article refs. Guess I need to work with it a bit more to get it "second nature". I think the bit I found hardest was setting up the stage environment - getting the pros in place, getting the bars in the right place, getting the tabs, cyc and wings into place and the right height. Placing the fixtures I agree is not so bad apart from the 3D aspect - I always seem to end up dropping a fixture onto completely the wrong bar! I think I need a trip over to Cwmbran some time when we're past this madness...
  12. Yea you're spot on with the External Monitor - readable but a little broken up. Yes it's the front panel that is wholly unreadable - but even Phantom running on your PC, we know the front panel is pretty bad/unreadable. I have a paid-for Capture 2019 license - I really need to try hooking that up to FLX like you guys do (I need to find one of your videos). I do find that software a bit clunky to set up a rig on though. I've tried to demo ideas to our directors but it was a bit of a PITA. Not very intuitive I find and pretty clumsy to position and move stuff. Must have taken you hours to rig those 10 movers and that band on the YouTube demos I'm watching. Or maybe I'm just useless at that too...
  13. You gotta be kidding! We know what the buttons say, but Home, Setup etc, each letter gotta be 3 pixels by 3 pixels at best! And if you can read REC or DBO then you're "makin' it up"!
  14. Thanks! Zoom - that's another one (popular at the moment). I'm all video-conferenced out at the moment, using WebEx, Google Hangouts, Cisco Jabber and now Zoom! I'm currently having a Z88 feeding frenzy on YouTube. Tyler is up at the moment and doing a sterling job! You chaps should invest in some microphones though - either some USB headset/mics or some half-decent USB table-top condensers. There is a lot of room ambience on the recordings because I guess you're using laptop internal mics, which makes them hard work, although I'm using a headset which helps a lot. Also the graphics/legends on Phantom are really totally unclear - even with the YouTube maximised on a large 1920x1080 monitor they are all unreadable - and the "External Monitor" pane is not much better. I know the desk, but it would be tough for a newcomer to try and keep track. Anyway keep up the good work and keep safe. Kevin
  15. I've got a store full of Z88 product to be going on with so the home page is not somewhere I visit much (unless you've designed a new one and point me there to comment on it). Don't do Facebook or Twitter. So maybe worth dropping a post into News and Announcements on the Forum for this sort of thing? Thanks, Kevin
  16. (Shameless thread steal, but I think it's run its course!) Hi Edward, I was completely unaware you were running these online sessions - although clearly they were publicised somewhere as I heard you mention @Lufferov early on. I must be going blind - I don't see any mention of them in News & Announcements, General Discussion or the FLX Forums (FLX Training and Videos last updated in 2015) - so where/how? I didn't get any email notifications either that I'm aware of (I do indeed receive a fair number of Forum notification emails and they don't go into 'Spam'). Anyway, I've watched the one you linked above - very interesting - well at least I learned you can use the Shift key in Fixture Setup to enable column sort 🙂 I'm off over to YouTube now to give the Ethernet video a spin, and probably all of the rest in good time... Hope you and the team are all well. Regards, Kevin (ps Is Jon morphing into Tyler with that facial hair? 🤣 Oh no! I see it's worse than that! Tyler has GIVEN Jon his facial hair!!! Watch out Edward, Keith's hair is comin' after you....!!! Arrrrggghhh It's already happened!!! Nat - run, run, run, NOW!!! Oh dear, working from home must finally be getting to me....) (pps What's going on at Z88. Tyler thinks he's Ronnie Corbett!)
  17. My French is on the (cough) poor side, but these are great Eric. Clearly a lot of work has gone into them. Great work! I hope you get favourable feedback from our French colleagues! Kevin
  18. I always wondered if ‘Stomping’ has anything to do with this. Edward did explain Stomping to me somewhere here (and I don’t think it was what I expected!). However there is ‘Allow Stomping’ somewhere in the playback options I think. Have a play!
  19. Yes you can rename the fixtures. Again in Setup when you have the list of patched fixtures, the second column defaults to the fixture name, but you can edit that name like other fields. These names will be used on the Output Screen and in the fader pane on an external display (FLX, FLX-S48 or FLX-S24 via Monitor app). I'm not aware you can add any other text/notes. And the name will get truncated on the Output Screen. (Where a sequence of fixtures have the same name, e.g. Dimmer, then the name can span the width of the fixtures so is less likely to get truncated. So put the "important bit" at the start of the name, so title them e.g. "SR Wash", "SL Wash" not "Wash SR" and "Wash SL", then at worst you'll get something like "SR W" and "SL W" rather than "Wash" and "Wash"!
  20. Channel (fixture) number and DMX address are independent. So you can configure fixture #2 (channel fader #2) to DMX address 6 for example. You do this under Setup. You can tap and renumber the fixture, providing that fixture (channel) number is not already used. The output screen will follow the Channel (fixture) number so you can't for example have a different fader order to the order shown on the screen - because I think that would drive you to madness anyway! I hope this what you're looking for... Kevin
  21. No, tha's Ollie's FLX 🤣
  22. Apparently this topic is now HOT!
  23. Ollie - interested how you get on. I bought Capture (at great expense) a fair few months back, but to date haven't had the guts to try and connect it to FLX... (desk or Phantom).
  24. I was first for a change! 🤩😝 (no accounting for quality of course!!!)
  25. Hi Ollie, Does anything in this recent thread help? Kevin
