  1. Mixed feelings. Yes I currently end up with zos files tech1, tech2... dress1, dress2 ... and on a "professional basis" I approve strongly on the concept of revision control.

But if the one file gets corrupted then I've lost everything. (This is not how revision control works in software development - a base plus deltas are stored, so you don't lose everything if one file gets corrupted).

So yea, not sure... but I'm ok that you're thinking about this.

...but yes, I would really like to be able to (e.g.) load my palettes from a previous show... because regenerating position palettes for movers in (essentially) the same rigging position as before is time consuming and tedious to say the least... and there is only so far you can go with loading the whole of a previous show and carefully deleting around the fixtures and palettes you want to keep - because said fixtures might not all be in the one show. This would be higher up my priority list.

  2. I would have thought on ZerOS and the Solution, if it was on you wouldn’t notice.

Possibly the main thing for your current workflow would be if you use Update, then ensure you have Cue Only selected.

Move on Dark is also very useful for old-skool colour scrollers. That’s where if first used it.

I’d encourage you to play with tracking on if you have a bit of down time. I bet you wouldn’t realise, and it will put you in a better position in future.

What are develops?  (sorry, I'm not very familiar with the terminology)

What I mean is, if you start installing LED fixtures or movers. Or even just colour scrollers or gobo rotators.

At such point when you have more than just dimmers, then HTP won't really work as a strategy. LTP and tracking will almost certainly come into play.

I don't know what tracking is like on Solution - maybe it's more awkward than on FLX. Prior to getting my FLX I ran a mile from tracking, but now it's just on by default. But then again now I have LED and movers in addition to generics so it's a bit of a "must" since I exploit move on dark a lot and sometimes overlay other playbacks or UDKs.

    Hm...we do...  😄

We often have several new groups performing in our theatre, so their technicians will not be used to working with the Solution desk. We want it to be as uncomplicated as possible for them.

In which case I can see HTP is more familiar to them!

But it will hamper you significantly if your install develops. It's a bit like tracking, before getting the FLX it was a nightmare...

  5. I don't think you can, sorry.

The banner at the bottom should have Next: in a yellow box and Current: in a green box if that helps you remember and to inform your other operators.

I had to get used to the green (grass) and blue (sky) for down and up fades - that's now the de-facto industry standard, but it wasn't the colours used on my previous consoles!

  6. Look, I know you boys have now got Neo and probably lots of other secret stuff to work on as well as ZerOS, but Christmas just isn't the same without an Advent Calendar 😉

    ...

    ...

Actually I don't care about the Advent Calendar, I just want the outtakes video - as long as you have falling scenery and Tyler again. 🥰

For those who don't know, we used to be treated to beauties like this (and yes I did just re-watch it instead of testing Edward's latest ZerOS beta 😆 ). I'll note we're still waiting for the feature with the drop down menu that drops the scenery!!!

  7. Hi, in reply to your message (best we share this live so others more knowledgable on Orb can help):

Your patch looks sensible if you have normal dimmers (I can see at least 27 on your screen shot) and they are based at DMX address 1. This would be typical so I don’t see anything out of the ordinary there.

Otherwise I’m afraid I know nothing about your board other than it is a very capable and high end desk (as a school you are very lucky!).

We could try come commands (but you might have to do other things on the Orb for these to work). For example:

    1 THRU 24 @50

do any lights come on? If you drop and raise the grand master and master playback faders does this help?

Otherwise I would give Keith (Service Manager and all-round good egg) at Zero88 a call.

  8. There have been a massive amount of changes to ZerOS since 7.3 including (I understand) significant changes to the operating paradigm.

You’ve probably done the equivalent of moving from Windows XP to Windows 10.

Before the Zero88 guys can be more specific I think you’re going to have to download a lot of the intervening release notes and have a read. Also have a search on this forum, probably most usefully in the Solution (or ZerOS LeapFrog) area, for discussions on this and probably around the 7.9 to 7.12 versions. (No point in looking at the FLX forum).

Dumb question: Have you checked your lights are still patched?

  9. Touch screen is probably still good. Bet the water can't get at that easily. Most at risk would probably be the button pads and faders. I think the CPU card is mounted under the front panel so that might have avoided a soaking?

  10. Does your "8 way Chauvet DMX splitter" support RDM? Most "cheap" DMX splitters are unidirectional and will thus block RDM packets, so RigSync won't work for fixtures fed from that DMX splitter.

Do you have other fixtures fed from this splitter where RigSync works? (And to add, that these fixtures weren't previously connected directly to the console and then moved behind the splitter after their config was set by RigSync).

  11. Interesting. I guess I never really thought about default holding colour but I guess it does, just the default is usually white!

So what you’re saying seems perfectly sensible!

I guess this us fairly easy to do - you’d set some fixtures and done RECORD HOME. It would have asked, I think, home or default, which might have rung some alarm bells, but certainly not hard it do.

Tomorrow, Edward comes along and tells us we’re both talking nonsense!

It makes tracking kind of funny, if you dont do a general unblock for the cue (setup - PB button - advanced - block/unblock).
(denks @Kgallen for this hint, i think i will start to use this function often in the future...)

As with me, this is due to COPY cue. I think if you were programming a fresh show, did a COPY then did an UPDATE then when you are programming the next cue fresh (not COPY) then I think it will be tracked from Cue 10.

Maybe what is happening here is either (a) Cue 10,11,12 were all COPY, or maybe (b) if Cue 10 is a COPY, then when you UPDATE cue 10, the desk has to repair Cue 11 by changing the values to blocked. Just my guess!

I'll add that I've never been brave enough to try the global unblock in the middle of a tech. I'm sure it's fine though and Edward has tested it thoroughly!
