  2. The default setting for when creating a fixture for Strobe is 255 but most fixtures want a default setting of zero. I set this default to zero when creating a new fixture, but occasionally forget to and have to go back and edit the default value for strobe to zero. The manual for your bar shows strobe as 0...255 Stroboscopic effect (o% to 100%)

  4. I think it's selecting the fixture button that spoils it so it should be... press record then the ‘home’ symbol and select default No doubt @Edward Z88 will be along in the morning to confirm or correct this.
  5. ZerOS 7.15 mettra à niveau toutes les consoles FLX S24 et FLX S48 vers 2048 canaux (quatre univers) et 96 et 192 appareils respectivement gratuitement. Les lectures, groupes et palettes disponibles seront également doublés.
  6. Hi. Another puzzler - I have some Stairville Showbar pro 16wx10, and as I’ve split the 6 into different groups - I had to create another new fixture. I used the same one as I had created for the others, and when bringing up the intensity it immediately strobes. The default strobe value is 255, I wind this off to zero, press record, fixture button, then the ‘home’ symbol and select default. All good. however the moment I start to try to use it again - it has flipped back to strobe value of 255. This is frustrating as I believe I am following the process to set the default - but it just won’t stick. any ideas what I’m doing wrong?
Merci Vincent —-Google Traduction—- Good morning, I have heard several rumors regarding Version 7.15 1) the FLX S24 will have the 2 Universe unlocked? 2) there will no longer be 2 playback/Chanel pages but 4 pages? Are these rumors I've been hearing going to be true, and if so when will Version 7.15 be released? THANKS Vincent
Hello, Welcome to the forum. FLX S24 was released in 2017, and is still a very powerful console. There have been three main changes to the console since launch: 1 - FLX S24 consoles now ship with 2 5-pin XLR sockets for DMX output. 2 - FLX S24 consoles are licenced for 1024 control channels as standard 3 - there have been a handful of processor upgrades to FLX S24 consoles as and when new processors have become available. FLX S24 consoles continue to receive regular software updates, adding new features. Please let us know if you have any questions.
  9. Bonjour, ça fait quelques années que la FLX S24 existe, y a-t-il une nouvelle console en cours de développement ? — Google Tard—- Hello, the FLX S24 has been around for a few years, is there a new console in development?
  10. Last week
  11. Mostly good news! This will make our S24 1U backup for the FLX 2U mostly seamless and open up the possibilities for pixel mapping. (We have to forego fixtures 49+ at the moment).
  12. All FLX S consoles will be upgraded to 2048 DMX channels through the software update. On page 3, the first page LED will flash. On page 4, the second page LED will flash. There will therefore be no change to how page 1 & 2 are indicated.
  13. Thanks, Edward - so with no extra hardware it’s effectively a free upgrade to a 1024 channel desk? Most helpful! will the playback and channel button LEDs effectively work in binary to show the page (0,0; 0,1; 1,0; 1,1?) vs the current 1-24; 25-48 LED?
  14. That is correct - although this is possible now, even if you have a 1-universe FLX S24. Please see the link below for more information… https://www.zero88.com/manuals/zeros/patching/available-channels You’ll have 4 pages of Channels/Playbacks rather than 2.
  15. I’m very pleased to hear of the upgrades to FLX S in 7.15 but interested how it’ll translate in practice. For our FLX S24, am I right in thinking both outputs will be enabled to generate a universe per output (as I understood the paid upgrade worked) or will this need some form of LAN breakout? I assume this would have to be the case to get all four universes? Similarly with the playbacks, I wondered how this will implement with only 48 physical playbacks available? Regardless, the increased groups and palettes will be very helpful!
  16. It does seem a bit ominous, deprecating the 'high end' (really, lower mid range in theatre console terms) product without a replacement announced. However I'll try to give the benefit of the doubt! I suppose you can't talk about future products -- I'd love to know if/when there'll be another syntax-based ZerOS console released…
  17. @Jon Hole I plead old age & having just eaten and needing a "nana nap" when I compose my post
  18. That's certainly our plan - we have a lot of plans on the table which we're working through. To be clear, the OS is not "frozen" for FLX... there will continue to be ongoing software updates for FLX & FLX S. After ZerOS 7.15, we are "freezing" the OS for Leap Frog 48 & 96, ORB, ORB XF and Solution. Bingo! Yes, that was when we "relaunched" the Leap Frog 48 & 96 console as Solution. Not as part of ZerOS 7.15, but potentially in the future (after tweaking it!).
  19. Over the years I've had the pleasure of popping to Cwmbran for various training events, a couple of factory tours and occasional casual visits when I was passing by as well as visiting trade shows; it was always good to see KWR88 about, happy to help and advise. You knew the consoles inside out but you were also personable and I enjoyed catching up with how our kids had been growing up Many thanks for all your help over the years Hope you and your family are well and wish you all the best in your future endeavours
  20. Hi Jon With your announcement of changes to the FLXs, are there any plans to provide the FLXs with more functionality in the form of editing of effects? I look forward to reading ZerOS 7.15 release notes to see what new features the consoles will then have... Is the Solution really 12 years old Unlike most modern electronic devices, the Solution XL I use is still going strong
  21. @kgallen - I understand the trepidation but it's worth reflecting that although the OS is frozen - it will continue to work & perform as it does today, the only issue with FLX being discontinued is ongoing maintenance but from experience it seems to be mostly faders that fail not the mainboard and I have seen only a couple of faulty internal displays. I haven't spoke to Jon lately but I suspect availability of the FLX Processor or the touch panel might be the factors that are creating the situation - I know at one point last year Zero didn't receive the order of processors they expected & the cost per unit had skyrocketed. The re-engineering of the FLX to step around this is (I suspect) the FLX S range which is based around Raspberry Pi - there might need to be some redesign later as the Pi evolves or the lower end Pi's go obsolete but that will be planned in. I suspect it more than likely that users will continue with the desks as long as they want (as they always have & their budgets will allow) - I'm servicing a Lightmaster XLS & Sirius from 1994 next week - I have another new customer wants BetaPack Mk 1's repairing, folks still ask me for Fat Frogs to buy and I've just bought a used LeapFrog 48 to repair for resale... There were similar concerns when Sirius 500 arrived then slowly died a death - to be replaced by the Frog range (we never got the keyswitch back though!) but the hardware is sturdy & unless really abused will carry on doing it's job long after I put my soldering iron down
  22. Thank you for the updates and roadmap. The FLX S fixture and universe upgrades are interesting and welcome. I’m working on my local hall moving to FLX S. However I can’t help but feel a little scared for my own FLX. I hope you are genuinely able to keep supporting and developing for this platform as there is a lot a capability under the hood. Are you developing a replacement high-end console to supersede FLX or is the Neo-X now that offering? I’ve never seen Neo mentioned outside of Vari-lite - no one on any of the forums I contribute on ever mentions or recommends the product (and neither do I as I know nothing about it). FLX and FLX S do, despite their undoubted reduced market share compared to the ETC offerings. Thanks, Kevin
  23. Hi all, ZerOS 7.14.3 is now available and includes a couple of bug fixes found solely on the most recently built FLX S consoles. We will soon start Beta Testing ZerOS 7.15. Aligning with this release, there are a few product updates to let you know about. FLX S24 & FLX S48 ZerOS 7.15 will upgrade all FLX S24 & FLX S48 consoles to 2048 channels (four universes) and 96 & 192 fixtures respectively free-of-charge. Available Playbacks, Groups and Palettes will all also be doubled. Full size FLX & ZerOS Server Due to component issues restricting production of the full size FLX & ZerOS Server for the foreseeable future, we are announcing their obsolescence. ZerOS software development will continue to support the full size FLX & ZerOS Server. ZerOS 7.15 will upgrade them to 4096 channels (eight universes) free-of-charge. Later in the year, ZerOS 8 will bring several new features to the full size FLX & ZerOS Server. We’re planning many further releases after that, too. FLX was released 9 years ago at Prolight & Sound in Frankfurt. Leap Frog 48 & 96, ORB, ORB XF, SCD Server & SCD Server Pro, Solution & Solution XL ZerOS 7.15 will be the last ZerOS software update for these consoles, as we are unable to bring the new features planned for ZerOS 8 to this hardware platform. We’ll continue to release ZerOS Library updates for these consoles and support our customers in any other way we can. Leap Frog 48 & 96 was released 17 years ago at Prolight & Sound in Frankfurt ORB was released 15 years ago at Prolight & Sound in Frankfurt ORB XF was released 13 years ago at PLASA in London Solution was released 12 years ago at PLASA in London Jon
  24. It was a summer refit at The College Theatre, Coventry in 1997 (possibly 1998 - I'm old!) when I'd specified Contour dimmers for our permanent dimming & when commissioning them found faults. I was a customer (at the time) of Central Theatre Supplies so complained to them - expecting to see a visit from Kirk with his magic hammer... Instead - the message came back that the manufacturer was sending someone to look at the units because they didn't believe they could have a fault... <Enter Stage Left with a Zero88 Manager - Keith Rogers> He chided us for not fitting the Contours with enough length on the mains tails and for using a cheap rackstrip (thank you CTS - a portent perhaps?) but happily cracked on and sorted the racks with an ever present good humour & then left. <Fast forward 13 months> I was now the Hire/Service Manager at CTS having replaced Kirk Wood & needed help with a faulty BetaPack - "Call Zero88 & talk to Keith..." came the answer when I asked DGH how I should proceed. I did indeed speak to Keith & we soon established our common link via The College Theatre & thus began a friendship that has endured to this day. Always keen and happy to help - an insufferable chocoholic & teetotal (as I discovered later) - good humoured (despite I suspect him putting the phone down on me after a couple of calls & cursing me 😜) and an avid interest in his customers and their problems. It has been an honour to know Keith & the news of his leaving has been truly saddening (yes - I'm privileged as a friend to know of his leaving since the New Year but was asked to keep quiet). He is still supporting me until he leaves (and I shall continue doing what I do) and in typical Keith 'fashion' ensuring I have the means to carry on what I do - perhaps he might let me have a bit of fluff or a button off his mantle to fit on mine so that I can carry on (in small part) where he's leaving off? I shan't say "You'll be missed Keith..." because I know you've already told me to call you if I need you - I'm looking forward to working with Jon & Edward and the other support folks at Vari-Lite as the brand moves forward. I will say "Good Luck Keith" - we'll look back on these years with a smile I'm certain.
  25. @kgallen has said it all really. You will be missed by the user community and, I'm sure, by your colleagues. Wishing you the best in your future endeavours. Every confidence in @Edward Z88 and @Jon Hole but this is still a pity.
  26. Oh no! Keith that is such a shame. But we have to all thank you for your many years of tireless support and answering all of our stupid questions. We will remember you with the ‘KR’ stickers inside of our equipment. With best wishes for whatever you are moving on to. If it’s still inside the entertainments industry then maybe we’ll see you around. If not, then good escape! Kevin
  27. Dear Forum Members, Some of you may have heard already, but to make it official, after 29 years I am leaving Zero 88 or Vari-Lite as we are now. My last day is Thursday 28th March. Since I started with Zero 88 way back in August 1995, as production test technician, testing both the PCB and complete units for the classics like the Sirius 24/48, Betapack Mk1, Rackmasters to name few, have seen many changes through mergers and acquisitions. I am proud to have been part of them and am looking forward to seeing what the future holds for the company. To those of you i have met personally, sorry about that …..not 😉 Those i have spoken or exchanged post/mail with, lucky you, got away lightly then 😉 In all seriousness, thanks to you all for the support and kind words over the years. I wish you all the best for the future, and will leave you in In Edward and Jon’s capable care.
