Brand new FLX - questions

Recommended Posts

Hello

I received the FLX + Wing + Monitor that you advise ...
And I can not put on the touch.
I did the calibration. When I touch the blue square it becomes yellow and that three times and when I'm asked to draw on the screen, nothing happens ...

Thanks for your help...

Eric

Hi Eric,

Sorry to hear this. If you are able to press the calibration squares I see no reason why you shouldn't be able to draw on it. If you press ENTER to confirm, does touch then continue to work? What software version is your new FLX running? Depending on the age it may not be running the latest, which is ZerOS 7.9.4, available to download here...

http://zero88.com/forum/files/file/17-zeros-794/

You can find out the current software version by tapping Z -> System Information.

Hope that helps, let me know how you get on.

Edward

Hi Eric,

Can you confirm the make and model of touchscreen? In the touchscreen calibration screen, is there a line of text saying "Calibration not working?". If so try tapping UPDATE, and then try pressing the blue squares again.

Edward

another question :
for testing I took an LED projector with me (Stairvilles Retro Flat 18 X 10 W - RGBW + Amber + UV)

so I managed without problems to be able to patch and have my projector on the screen of color palettes.
I can once the FADER 1 open, playing with the colors except Amber and UV which are selected on two encoder wheels. But no way to have UV without other color...

Can I allocate a fader on the UV aspect or create a palette with UV ?

And on the other hand I do not buy the strobe ...
Can I also for the strobe have an allocated fader?

Knowing that UV and Strobe are functions that I use a lot in show.

If the touchscreen still isn't working past the calibration screen, please go to Z -> System Information -> System Info, and take a picture of the screen and send it to me. This may help us see what the problem is.

Regarding your LED fixture, currently Red, Green, Blue and White colour parameters are used in Colour Mixing. Any other colours (such as Amber or UV), are not used. You can of course still control these parameters using the encoder wheels, and record them into your own palettes. You can also add these parameters to the auto-palettes by updating them.

To record UV to a Playback fader, select your LED fixture and turn on its intensity. Then go to the Colour Picker, and use the Value fader to dial RGBW out. Then use the UV parameter encoder to dial the UV to full, tap RECORD, and tap a Playback fader. You'll then need to adjust the colour fade to 0 seconds, so that when you raise the fader you will be in UV, rather than fade through white. This can be done by holding VIEW + tap your Playback.

If a fixture has a Strobe parameter, this will be found under the Beam attribute. You can record the Strobe rate to a fader, by selecting the fixture and turning it on, and dialing the Strobe to full. Tap RECORD, and tap a Playback. Then go into the settings of that Playback by holding SETUP + tapping its button, and choose Fader Controls Beamshape. Click OK, and this fader will control the rate of the fixture's strobe.

Hope that helps,

Edward

But for my part I will like when I am at the level of the faders in "channels" mode to control with a fader the UV and for example on another fader strobe ... Because when I have to record in theater mode effects one after the others I must be able to quickly access the parameters ... and for example to mount the UV to the wheel elbow takes a while ...

Hi Eric,

(Now you have FLX [excellent!], should we not move over to the FLX part of the Forum?]

Regards "parameter on fader" there is this knowledgebase article on configuring this style on FLX. By extension as as per your conversation above with Edward, this can be used for all colours and other attributes too like strobe on beamshape:

http://support.zero88.com/Consoles/FLX/1014413041/RGB-Colour-Mixing-on-faders-FLX-Series.htm

Regards,

Kevin

ps I notice in your screen picture you do have "USB TouchController" so that looks promising... I suspect you just need to press the UPDATE key when on the Calibration screen - I had to with my Iiyama T1731SR (and I also forget too, when I've updated the firmware!),

Maybe the fixture profile is defined wrong - if you press the button inside the encoder you will cycle around the "pages" of parameters in a given attribute. Maybe you will find strobe under colour?

I'd expect (as Edward explains) the Amber and UV on the encoder (probably second page) - I have this too with LEDJ HEX6 fixtures. As you require you can get a handle on a playback fader as discussed, I hope this works ok for you.

I would normally expect strobe to sit under beamshape if the fixture is constructed correctly (and the fixture itself is not quirky enough to have the strobe parameter burried within an otherwise colour DMX channel!) - hopefully Edward can check this out for you.

If you can find the Strobe somewhere on the encoders then you should be able to get a handle on a fader as per Edward's comments, choosing "beamshape" or "colour" (or "position" if it's really weird!). Your fixture looks like a Thomann brand so I'll try to find the manual and see if the fixture definition looks sensible, if I get a chance...

Which mode are you using with the Stairville flat PAR? Can you try the 8-channel mode - need to set on the fixture via its menus, and by assigning the 8-channel profile on the FLX.

I'm just looking in the latest Fixture Library, #35, and I don't see a fixture that looks like the Retro Flat PAR you list above. Which fixture definition are you using?

I checked on the FLX as on the Stairville modes are in 8 channels. On the FLX I see them on the display menu
intensity
red
green
blue
white
amber
UV
Strobe.
But the problem is the direct access of amber and UV which as I said above are on the coding wheels. And I do not find access to strobes ...
I thought for example to select UV and between a value of 100 to put it to full.

To review:

  1. Have you been able to follow Edward's instructions and get A and UV onto playback faders?
  2. Have you found Strobe on any encoder (under colour or beamshape or position -> pressing the encoder centre button to cycle the pages)?

Above you say "But for my part I will like when I am at the level of the faders in "channels" mode to control with a fader the UV"

-> you will need the faders in "playbacks" not "channels" -> channels will always give you intensity control of that fixture number. To map the UV to a fader you are using a "playback" to be a control of a single parameter (colour attribute -> UV parameter) of a fixture. (If you want to control every parameter of each fixture manually on a fader then the power of FLX abstraction of control is not needed, you might as well buy a cheap fader-per-DMX channel desk. Point of FLX [and other "high" desks], is you deal with many fixtures in an abstract way with palettes, groups and other high-level features, not fader per DMX channel).

If I have a playback with UV I can use this way for recording in master playback ?

Yes 😀 or any other playback - you have 241 playbacks, there is nothing special about the "master" playback other than dedicated buttons for Go and Pause.

In it's simplest form an FLX playback is a submaster. But on FLX, playbacks are MUCH more powerful and flexible than a traditional submaster 😀

I restart everything.
VIDEO
Still no operation of the touch screen.
The display on the screen is done but I can not run the screen so that to work is a little complicated.

FADER
What I miss is a lot of direct access.
Because there I am to train with 1 projectors.
But on show I'm with a lot of things all over the scene ...
And I think it will take me some time to understand the whole logic of how FLX works.

For my part the master playback button will correspond a little to my old GO for monitoring the show in order. 150, 200, 250 effects that follow each other ...

Then the playbacks buttons, will be more help and catch up ... (example lack of a little face on the faces ...)

PLAYBACK to MASTER PLAYBACK
But if indeed I can record things that come from the Playback (strob, UV and other things) to the Master Playback, at that moment it allows me to better manage things ...

If you did Factory Reset, then you will need to calibrate the external monitor again (other resets you do not).

Go to External Monitor Calibration (get "+" on external screen), press UPDATE button. Check if you can do 3 "+" then draw. Can you get this to work?

so I did a factory reset.

After going on system setting.

There is no update menu.

Only External display setting with

disabled. - Enabled  - Auto detect      calibrate monitor  (and after différents resolutions). So resolution look's good, because I ve a right screen display.

This is tactile which look to doesn't t work...

No, no, no!

Press the physical UPDATE button on the FLX keypad when the External Monitor shows the screen with blue "+" 😊
