Editing chases on 7.9.2+

Hi

I am new to the Solution, and need to plot and run a show in a few weeks, but I don't have access to the desk until just before the show, so I am doing a lot of manual reading and working with the Phantom simulator (which is a godsend!).

Many questions obviously, but one thing I can't work out at the moment; if I have a chase stored as a playback, and I need to edit one of the cues in the chase, the manual says to load the cue using LOAD <cue #> and then the GO button of the relevant Playback - however, this always seems (at least in Phantom) to start the chase running, which is obviously useless. I can disable the chase on the playback, edit it, and re-enable it, (or presumably change the GO button binding), but this seems a bit clunky - is there an easier way?

Thanks in advance - sorry if this is a newbie question!

Tom

Hello TomM,

here's what Edward answered to me about the same topic, but on 7.9.3 :

To update a cue/step of chase, you need to go into it using GO Snap. You can do this by holding SHIFT + tapping the chase's button. You will find that rather than acting as a tap tempo, it now acts a GO Snap and pauses the chase from running. This allows you to go to the step you need to edit, make your changes, tap UPDATE, and then tap the chase's button. You can then tap the chase's button again and the chase will resume to run automatically.

Hope that helps, any queries let me know
Edward

Hi Tom,

Thierry's comment will work on ZerOS 7.9.2. The latest version of software is ZerOS 7.9.4.

You should find you can also use the Load method. With your chase released (fader at 0% so it isn't running), tap LOAD type the cue number followed by the Chase's button, and the cue of the chase will be brought in to the programmer. You can then make your changes, and tap UPDATE ENTER, to update the cue of the chase.

Hope that helps,

Edward

Hi

Sorry it has taken me so long to respond guys; these tips really helped, especially Thierry's hint that the GO(SNAP) PB button mapping was the way to go which suits the way I want to use the desk - this is not very intuitive, as I'd already tried several other button mappings, including the superficially similar GO(FADE), which doesn't seem to do what I want. The load method also seems to work, but I am not sure I really understand what LOAD does, as it appears to merge whatever you have currently active on the desk with the tagged value of the loaded cue, instead of replacing everything with the programmed level - at least that's what I think it does; every intensity level stored in the retrieved cue turn red, but anything not in the loaded cue stays at the same level and the same colour (as an aside, the colours for the intensity levels on the output window are very badly covered in the manual). Note that I am working in non tracking mode at the moment, so I am expecting every loaded cue to replace every dimmer and fixture setting).

Thanks, I think I have enough information now to get the desk to do what I want, but it's been a bit of an uphill battle!

Hi Tom,

Glad that SHIFT + GO gave you the result you wanted. Playback buttons can have 2 functions, a second when pressed with Shift held. The default shifted function is Go (Snap), which means you can manually snap into a cue in a chase, without it running. You can however configured this shifted function, by holding SETUP and tapping the Playbacks button. The bottom line of options is the button function.

If a Playback is a chase, the Go Fade option, is a little bit like a chase resume. This is because chases don’t use cue fade times, as the cross fade between cues in a chase are configured in the chase options of the playback settings.

The Load function is used to “load” any cue into the programmer. This is therefore like playing back your cue, but rather than coming from a programmed value, the values are brought into the programmer (indicated by red values in the Output Window). This is useful to add additional values to record/ update the cue, or as a good way of recording a new cue, made from the basis of another.

Regarding colours in the Output Window, this guide should help you if you’re a little confused...

Hope that helps, any queries let me know.
