Level 18 And Betapack 2

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I have a Level 18 plugged into three Betapack 2's. Recently, and without any warning as far as I know, channels 1 to 5 on both preset A and preset B of the Level 18 have stopped fading - the lights on these channels are stuck at 100% regardless of where the channel fader is. Channel 6 on preset A is also stuck at 100%, but on preset B it works as expected. The preset A master, preset B master and the master fader all work as expected. I'm pretty sure it's not a problem with the cable connecting the Level 18 to the Betapack, as I've tried another cable and had exactly the same symptoms.

Another problem that has started at the same time is that, very occasionally, when fading between preset A and preset B using the master faders, all the lights dim very briefly. I'm not sure if this is related.

I'm keen to find some sort of solution - basically, I'd like to know whether the symptoms I've described warrant (1) replacing the Level 18 board, (2) getting an expert to fix the board, if that's an option, or (3) fixing it myself. I'd really appreciate any advice!

Thanks,

Fergus.

From what you have described there are a few possibilities that spring to mind about the cause of the problem.

The main one is that the first 6 channels are on a seperate PCB it is possible that there is a poor connection to the main PCB.

It could also be the multiplexer IC on the fader card having failed or even become loose.

It could also be a problem with the faders on the desk as well, but for so many to fail it normally takes something being dropped on the desk to do it.

The master fader problem does however look like a faulty fader or possibly gunk in the fader.
