  1. FLX Artnet ip-only network with ARRI Skypanels

Hi, I wonder if anyone can help. I have 12 ARRI Skypanels networked using ethernet through a couple of small switches (they are on two hanging trusses) and plugged directly into the FLX console ethercon port. Skypanels are set up for Artnet on 10.x.x.x with gateway, DMX channels assigned correctly (12 channels per Skypanel). When I unplug the console and plug in a laptop running LightJams, all of the fixtures are detected and I can assign everything and control. However for the life of me I can't get it working with FLX. Artnet is set up on 10, and all the fixtures are added with correct channel assignments. Has anyone set up FLX using Artnet over a ip only network? Hoping someone has some wisdom to share. Thanks, Richard

  4. RigSync

Hello Folks, I'm not sure if this is a software fault or an operator fault, but I was hoping for a quick setup of the new FLX s 24 for a client but it turned into a long days work! For some reason, some of the LED fixtures were flickering (strobing in white) when connected to DMX. I thought at first this may have been a cable or fixture issue but having tried numerous combinations there was still an issue. So, I went into the menu to check settings and I disabled RigSync, miraculously it solved the issue straight away! As this was a quick setup I didn't have time to look into if there may have been any other configurations that could have caused it, but I thought I would check here to see if it was a software fault or that of myself. Thanks in advance.
  5. Tracking backup

Hello again... still on the network setup here, with projectors working, but no tracking backup... I may be missing something in terms of setting up a tracking backup, but... here is where I’m at: I can see the laptop and flx via each other on network settings without issues. I can use either the flx as a desk or separately the laptop with dongle as a desk. I just can’t get either to recognise the other as a master, even with manual IP entry when they are set to backup. Do you have guide for setting this up? Had a quick look, but haven’t found anything yet. Thanks. Phil.
  6. Effect position judder on some fixtures

Hi All, Have created a new fixture file for some 36*18 led wash clones. All seems OK except when setting an effect the fixture has a jerky movement. Also seen on some Lanta Neptunes. I had thought it was the fixture... any ideas? (file attached) LasTyp1.ift
  7. Hello everybody! by reading the forum from time to time, I got the impression that a couple of users are not familiar or 100% satisfied with the effect engine of zerOS. Maybe I'm wrong with my impression (let me know), but I would like to take this occasion to talk with the other FLX users (or other zerOS-consoles) about possible improvements. The current effect engine has a scientific approach in the sense of how it works. Mainly it is based on mathematical functions to chance fixture parameters. This makes it flexible and powerful. On the other hand, this seems to be less user-friendly and intuitive than the effect engines of zero88's competitors. In my opinion, an effect engine has to give the designer or operator a very easy and effective way to select and configure often used effects. E.g. a rainbow, moving a couple of fixtures in a wave, or a fly in / out. Let me use this examples to show what I mean: Rainbow: The build in rainbow effect-palette does not include the primary colours red, green and blue alone. There are only mixed colors with at least two primary colors active. This is caused by the underlaying waveforms. From the designers point of view a rainbow should go like this: From red to yellow, than reducing the red part going to green, than keeping green on and increasing blue going to cyan and so on. It's very hard (if not impossible) do to exactly this with the currently used waveform-based effects. Moving fixtures in a wave: Select a couple of fixtures, apply a sine effect to tilt and wonder: All fixtures are moving equal. Where is the sinewave? Hidden by an zero-offset. This could be easily fixed (and is no problem at all for experienced users) by applying an offset using Shift+<Wheel>. Imagine the selected fixtures are part of a truss-circle - so we would like that the first fixture exactly follows the last one to get a closed, stepless wave. I found it very hard to find the correct offset value in such cases. Sometimes, I used half an hour for that before I finally give up... Fly in/out: In this case, we have to sync different attributes and have to care about the moving speed of the fixture: First the fixture has to go to the top tilt value with zero intensity. Than we should wait a moment so that the fixture can perform the movement (this is important!). Now we can open the shutter and move to bottom, close the shutter at bottom and repeat. Synchronisation between the waveforms for the different attributes is hard to reach. Wait between steps to let the fixture move is not possible. Possible improvements: Use intuitive units for effect parameters: Speed in BPM or Hz, Offset in degree, Size in %. There are no units at all currently. Thus it's hard to get an understanding of what the effect engine is doing. Implement a function to automatically spread the offset between all selected or a specific # of fixtures More improvements could be made if the approach is changed: Don't limit effects to waveforms: E.g. self (or build-in) step patterns could fasten the programming of chasers. Develop new creative approaches for creating effects. Think from the designers point of view (often this couldn't be done by programmers) Provide build-in effects not only as palettes, but also as a quick solution for often needed exercises: Fly in, Fly out, Rainbow - all those effects where it is not possible to do them perfectly with waveforms, because parameters are depending on each other and so on. Those effects should be configurable with different parameters - depending on which parameters it could be possible worth for the designer to have influence on I hope you understand this post as constructive criticism - this is my intention. All in all I'm glad to use the FLX. Especially I really appreciate that you are interested in your users needs. This is why I wrote this - hoping to initiate a step in the FLX's way to be the perfect lighting console. It's not in my nature to write long (and complicated) texts in english language. I hope you could easily understand my intention and that Google Translator hasn't fooled me. At last I'd like to invite every user to participate at this discussion. Best regards Jan
  8. Understanding Effect Waveforms

I'm struggling to get to grips with the Effect Waveforms with my RGB fixtures. I've been trying to make a smooth fade across the RGB spectrum, so starting at Red fading through to Yellow into Green to Cyan then into Blue and finally Magenta before fading back to Red and moving evenly across all the colours in between. I don't want it to stop at any point in the cycle and I don't want it to dip to black... just a consistent colour fade that goes round and round. How do I achieve this with the Effect Waveform generator? If I set Red, Green and Blue to Sine then they all follow the same path so I get fade to White, then out etc... Logically I think I need to offset the Sine wave, but the options are Sine, Sine 180, Sine 270. This doesn't seem to make sense since if I offset Green by 180 it's doing the opposite curve to Red, if I set then set Blue to Sine 270 they are all out of sync so it never does the cycle I'm looking for. It feels like I need to set the Sine to 120 for Green and 240 for Blue but those aren't options.... Is my understanding of how this works wrong? I feel like I need a tutorial on how this feature is implemented. Most colour fixtures are either RGB or CMY with an increasing number of RGBA/RGBW etc... So I don't understand why the 120/240 offsets for the Function don't exist. The Step function is the same, it's 0/90/180/270... again divided into 4. So how does this work with fixtures that use three colour attributes?

  11. Multiple select in patch

Hi, If I've used the patch wizard to add say 10 Mac 700s and 20 LED PARs as well as a few conventionals. Is there any way in "Edit Fixtures" to select multiple fixtures? Say I want to invert pan on all my Mac 700s, can I highlight them all or tag them in some way? It's a pain to have to select each one and set them individually. I recently had 64 LEDs and I needed to set their "Home" intensity to '0'. That took me absolutely ages! Regards
  12. How does "copy" work?

Hi, Today I created a simple colour chase on a playback, once I'd done that I wanted to copy it to the next playback and then change the parameter to "Random". I couldn't figure out how to use the "Copy" command though? What's the correct syntax to use? Regards
