Updating Leap Frog 48

Hi

I haven't been using my frog for while and with that, I haven't kept up to date with software upgrades and I'm hoping to use it on Friday for a concert.

The frog OS is 5.4 (bought Feb 2008) and I would like to upgrade it to the latest OS so do I need to do a gradual upgrade from 5.4 to 6.0 then 7.6 or can I go from 5.4 straight to 7.6? (I don't have the Zero88 branded USB as it stopped working months ago)

Thank you

Transfer With Time

Hello there.

I used to use the Bull Frog desk and switched to Leap Frog 48 two years ago.

One feature I am really missing is the "Transfer with time"-function the older desk offered. That way I could easily prepare a variety of chases using submasters and then simply transfer these into the cue stack. I have not yet found a way of doing so with the leap frog. Any ideas of how to do that? Or could a future uupdate solve this issue?

Similar issue: Will it be possible to transfer output values from one channel to another - for example, if I have a very nice chase using channels 3 to 6, will there be a possibility to transfer that chase to channels 7 to 10?

Additional Views For Remote

Possible improvement...?
Because of the screen size of an iPad, some of the faders and buttons on the "Panel" view are quite small.

Could additional screens similar to "Wheel" be created for other sections such as "Submasters", "Presets" (in 3 rows of 36?) and "DMX In"? Alternatively could the screen be re-sizable?

Fat Frog Start Up Problem

I am using a Fat Frog that has developed a strange problem when it starts up. The desk boots up OK but when start up is delete it goes into the following state:

Black out active.
Wide mode on.
Both LEDs next to the Preset Control button are on (something that should not be possible)
External screen locked to memory view.
All displays have illumination set to zero so they appear blank.

The end result is that the desk is effectively locked and will not do anything; however, it can be unlocked by going through the following process (please don't ask me how I worked this out):

Press and hold the Wheel Group button while pressing the Preset Control button. This makes the Preset Control LEDs act normally with only one being on at a time.
Switch off black out
Leave wide mode on.
Press and hold F1 to unlock the external screen.
Use superuser to change screen illumination settings.

Then the desk operates normally as far as I can tell.

What I would really like to know is what is going on so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Just to add an extra level of complication, this issue first appeared a few years ago when I switched the desk from full to partial memory mode. The issue was present until Christmas last year when all of a sudden everything went back to normal for no apparent reason. However, with similar lack of warning or reason, the problem has just reappeared.

I have replaced the battery in the desk in case this was the problem but it made no difference. The desk is also running the latest version of the operating system.

I look forward to hearing any suggestions!

Thanks for your help.

Sync Problems

Hi there,

I am very used to using the Jester 24/48 desks but recently started working in a theatre which has a Jester ML48 desk. The transition was fairly straight forward for static lights however i don't have much experience with ML Fixtures.

The current hang includes 1 Mac250 Krypton and 1 iMove 250.

I have patched them into the board and can control them individually but the problem comes when I try to program them as a pair. They both moved in opposite directions when using the control wheel. I solved this by rehanging the iMove250 and that seemed to solve that problem...surely I was missing a trick as your desk seems to have more than enough control options?

My new problem is that when I press the Home button the Mac defaults to an open shutter where as the iMove defaults to a closed shutter. Is there any way I can default them so they do the same thing when home is pressed?

I apologise, but as stated I am a real newbie when it comes to ML fixtures and I'm finding it really frustrating and time consuming.

I would love to attend your training day but I am out of the country, so any simple written advice would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Operate Led Fixtures From Subs

I need to operate a number of LED fixtures from sub masters on my LeapFrog 48
I don't have enough faders available to just put them there
I have tried storing a red, green and blue sub but they interfere with each other
I have re recorded them untagging the unused colors still they interfere with each other
When I fade up the fixture it comes up white until 50% then the color I want gets brighter and the other 2 fade out
I used to be able to do this on my fat frog but I haven't found the trick (if there is one) to accomplish this on the LeapFrog

Inserting Memory Steps

I wondered if you could advise me on using the phantom jester.

I am trying to insert a few programme steps between two existing steps that have only integers assigned (i.e. no .x in the step number) and I am struggling to add more than one step. I have found a "work around" but I'm not sure if its the correct method (I'm new to the jester desk).

If I use the insert button I get the extra steps x.1 to x.9 appearing and I can select one of them to programme but as soon as I press the program button all the other x.y steps disappear. If I try the insert button again on the integer step or the x.y step that was saved I cannot bring up the other 8 blank steps.

What I did find was that if I save the programme to a file and reload it I can go back to the integer step, press the insert button and get the remaining x.y memories to appear and programme one of them.

This seems a bit of a convoluted process, could you advise if there is a better way of adding in several steps in one go.

Thanks

Ift Files Not Showing Up On Computer

I am pretty new to the Zero 88 consoles as well as this software. I already created my fixtures in the editor and I hit save. It shows that the file has saved correctly, however when I go to transfer the files to the console, they are not there.

Create A Fat Frog Show File?

Hi

In our theatre I would like to remove the need to fly our Fat Frog from the perch down to the auditorium for focusing and plotting to reduce the amount of bashing it gets. We have already substitued a small desk for focusing, but obviously this is no use for plotting.

I was wondering about putting together a simple program to control the 48 channels (and fixtures if I could be bothered to do it) which can save the looks of each scene and output a show file which the Fat Frog can read. It might still need tidying up, but this would be better than flying the desk up and down every few weeks.

Is there a reference anywhere of the exact show file format for a Fat Frog which I could have? This is strictly non-commercial and intended to save knocks to our precious desk.

Problems starting PhantomZerOS

Hi,

Thanks for the explanation of the ORB XF at the booth in Frankfurt!

After the demo in Frankfurt I wanted to play a little with the Phantom OrbXF, but unfortunately I always get the message "Load Fixture Type failed". Please see the attached jpg for details

This also appears starting other versions. Curios: It worked before! Ok., I always had the problem that I could not close the application, I had to "kill" it by terminating the process via task manager.

I tried a lot to get it run, changed the installation path, run as admin, changed the directory in the settings, reinstalled the application, cleaned the registry (at least what I found) etc.
Nothing works.

The hardware and software I'm using is a Lenovo Thinkpad T400 with Windows7 32bit, everything with the default MS windows drivers and up-to-date regarding patches etc.

Ml24 Noob With A Headache

Hi there,

I've upgraded from an ancient Zero 88 illusion 120 (only because it died completely and the school that I work in were forced to put their hands in their pockets!) to a Jester ML24 desk. Literally opened the box yesterday and had an initial play. All ok so far except one niggling issue.

We currently run 4 x betapack 2 dimmer racks which give me 24 channels of dimmers to play with. These 24 channels are automatically assigned to the 24 submasters on the ML24 desk (in wide mode). Right. Our performance space is due for an upgrade in the next couple of years which will mean the addition of a few more dimmer racks to allow for more parcans/fresnels/whatever.

Stupid question alert: Seeing as we will then have more than 24 channels - I.e. too many for 1 operated singly by each fader, how will I then access, for example a parcan on channel 25 via the desk? On the Illusion it was as simple as typing "channel, 25 @ 100%". The ML24 doesn't operate via this method. How do I find channel 25, 26, 27 and any number above??? (obviously for moving fixtures I would access these via the MFK keys - can this be done for generic pars and fresnels? If so, how?).

It's probably something obvious but I just cant see it. Stress and overwork leads to numb brain

Hi,

I've just purchased a jester ML48 after using the Frog desks for a few years. A lovely desk!

I understand you can programme the AUX buttons - am i correct in saying these are the ones with the LCD display above?

Is it possible to set these up so I press one and it sets a DMX channel high to operate a smoke machine etc? Can I also then name them on the LCD display like you can the submasters on the Frog?

Many thanks in advance for your time.

Jester Chases And Flex Led

I'm just using the Jester ML48 desk for the first time for a show this week and have a DXM to LED controller, running some RGB flex LED. I've got it working find using a fader each for Red, Green and Blue.

Just a few questions if anyone can help

1) I tried setting up a simple fixture for the LED strip, setting the start address of the DMX but this didnt work. I also tryed using the relay fixture, thinking this would switch the colours on and off but again this didnt work. It works fine assigning a fader for each.

2) When I set up a chase can I programme a default speed as it seems to keep the same slow chase setting. Can this be changed and programmed into the submaster chase?

3) When I did set the speed and had the chase programmed to a submaster, I then programmed the submaster into a memory in the show but when I recalled the memory it just stuck on the first chase (green in my case). Any ideas?

Sorry for all the questions and thank you in advance for the help.

ML24 Screen fault

Hi,

I have a Jester ML24 which came to me last year with an intermitent fault on the LCD screens where sometimes they wouldnt show the full details of what show be shown. This has slowly got worse to the point where I'm now patching fixtures and using palettes from memory and guess work!!.

The screens are lighting up blue with power its just the writing thats not showing. Its only the 2 screens that are used for the fixture assign and palette labeling the other 2 screens seem tobe fine.

Is this a fixable thing? easier to replace the whole pcb? or is it time to start saving for a new one?!

Cheers

It would be very useful to get a print / export function. I need to print the channel data eg. memories no / Submaster no., text, fade times, Ch 1-48 value (nice to have: C/P/B/E No MFK). So I can program it easier on other theatres if I have to. And its a good backup if there are any problems.

Keypad unresponsive

We have had an issue recently with the key pad on our TL becoming unresponsive. When this happens all of the keys on the numeric pad seem to stop responding in program/record mode (except the @ key oddly). So typing "20 @ 50 <Enter>" produces just "@".

Switching into setup mode and going into the test option indicates that the keys are working and are sending the correct values. The only way to get the keypad back into normal operation seems to be a restart.

We have version 2.3 installed and I notice in the release notes for version 2.4 that it fixes JES 2713 which says "the command line is now enabled/disabled correctly after closing pop-up windows on the Main LCD in Program Mode". I was just wondering if what we are experiencing is related to that fault. I don't know if the problem has followed a pop up window as it hasn't done it to me, and the guy it did happen to isn't sure what leads up to the problem.

I plan to upgrade anyway but won't be able to do so for a couple of weeks.

Export Patch List

Hi all,

Is there a way to export the patch list for the universes on zerOS?

Something like

Dmx............fixture number............manufacturer..........type

103..............65..............................Martin.......................mac500 mode4
200..............27..............................generic....................dimmer

Normally this list is what is used to set up the desk, but i just had te request to get it out of an existing show file with > 100 fixtures. Was just wondering if there is a way to get this done without copy paste with a pencil and notepad?!
Best way would be exporting in a csv format. Trying to export the complete show as csv didn't work,
Thanks , regards

Betapack2: Not Receiving Dmx

Hi all,

I've got a Betapack 2 (wired 32A x 1) here, and it's being naughty... I hope you can help?

here are my observations so far:

Powers up fine

Desk supply LED is on

O/P LED's all work

Channel test buttons work (I've tested the outputs via these and a fresnel - nothing untoward here).

DMX address set to 025 (correct for this install), also tried setting it to the same address as another dimmer to verify the behaviour. As expected, the fine dimmer was fine, the broken one was broken.

Does not read the DMX...

I've tried placing the unit as the first in the chain to no avail.

Tried it being the only item in the chain, followed by a terminator...

Checked my signal wiring - the signal chain is fine with the other dimmers (a mixture of Betapack 2 & 3's), and the selection of nodding buckets are all behaving too.

Checked termination - all fine here too.

there is one thing though: When I plug in the DMX, the error LED will flash once, maybe twice... And then go dark again? Hmm.

The only thing I haven't done yet is take it off of the wall and go hunting around for blown passive components on the control circuit. I've had a long browse of the manual, and can't find anything pertaining to this behaviour... Before I remove it from the wall, is there anything else I should investigate?

Thanks,
