Nearest I can suggest, using inhibit, is to record chs 1 & 2 @100% on PB3 and set that to inhibit and ch 3 on PB4 @100% put PB at full and leave it there until it is needed. When the business happens, reduce PB3 and increase PB4.

Thanks @Davidmk and @Jon Hole I think as you suggest this is the most practical solution.

There have been occasions where I've needed to do this. In these situations, I raise my special playback, and simultaneously lower my Master Playback's fader, until I've got the balance how I want it. Is there a particular reason you don't want to touch the Master Playback in this situation?

Hi @Edward Z88, thanks! Yea I've done this in the past, but in this instance it will be just part of the lighting state I want to check back, not the whole rig.

I've watched the Inhibit video https://www.zero88.com/manuals/zeros/cues-playbacks/playback-settings/general a couple of times to clarify this function.

Thanks all for your help! 🙂

  2. I did this:

     1@@, 2 AND 3@50

and had to set PB1 to Intensity Mixing = LTP, and it worked perfectly if ch1,2 are on (and above 50%). If ch1,2 are off then they come on at 50% which is not what I want...

Setting to Inhibit didn't work at all as I expected. The PB1 fader was at 0 and the main cue was live (1,2@90). Raising PB1, it took ch1,2 to 45 (expected, this is 50% of the 90) but ch3 didn't come on at all, and when I dropped the fader, ch1,2 went out - did not release to the main playback. In the PB1 Raise and Lower, all of the Raise and Release settings were greyed out, so I couldn't disable Release on Lower.

Probably this is all as expected to Edward, but clearly I'm not understanding Inhibit very well!

  3. Not urgent (as in a few days will be fine!).

(Simplified scenario to get to the nub of how I program this requirement).

Basically I want to be able to highlight some panto business at a stage position with a special (channel 3) but I want to check back the general cover in that area (channels 1 and 2).

Let's say channels 1 and 2 (plus others) are part of the general cover and are on stage and bright, say 90%, and they are sourced from a cue stack running on the main playback. I'll be Tracking on.

I want to program another manually-applied playback, say PB1, where I want the playback fader to take channel 3 (the special) up to full but also to take channels 1 and 2 down to (say) 50%. All intensities would be proportional to PB1 fader. If the PB1 fader is reduced to zero, I want the controlled channels (1,2,3) to release back to main playback control.

If I use this PB1 when channels 1 and 2 are currently at 0%, then I want them to stay at 0%, not come on!

How would I program this? Is this a use of Inhibit (for channels 1 and 2).

Maybe I program PB1 with 1@@, 2 AND 3@50 and then Setup PB1 as Inhibit with Release on Lower enabled. Do I need to do anything else (like set LTP?). When I run this on PB1 do I need to start pressing PB1 GO button or can I just use the fader (desired).

    Thanks!

  4. I can't remember if this one is a long standing buggette, or whether it means what's on stage versus in the cue is out of sync and you need to GO to align them!

    Yea ok, useless answer!

I found this in an old Beta comment, if it applies to your scenario:

Also when I do Shift+Go (Go Snap) why does the Pause/Back button start flashing?

Shift+GO also acts as a pause - stopping chases or Auto cues from triggering (useful when updating cues) and hence the Pause button flashes to let you know.

  5. Mixed feelings. Yes I currently end up with zos files tech1, tech2... dress1, dress2 ... and on a "professional basis" I approve strongly on the concept of revision control.

But if the one file gets corrupted then I've lost everything. (This is not how revision control works in software development - a base plus deltas are stored, so you don't lose everything if one file gets corrupted).

So yea, not sure... but I'm ok that you're thinking about this.

...but yes, I would really like to be able to (e.g.) load my palettes from a previous show... because regenerating position palettes for movers in (essentially) the same rigging position as before is time consuming and tedious to say the least... and there is only so far you can go with loading the whole of a previous show and carefully deleting around the fixtures and palettes you want to keep - because said fixtures might not all be in the one show. This would be higher up my priority list.

  6. I would have thought on ZerOS and the Solution, if it was on you wouldn’t notice.

Possibly the main thing for your current workflow would be if you use Update, then ensure you have Cue Only selected.

Move on Dark is also very useful for old-skool colour scrollers. That’s where if first used it.

I’d encourage you to play with tracking on if you have a bit of down time. I bet you wouldn’t realise, and it will put you in a better position in future.

What are develops?  (sorry, I'm not very familiar with the terminology)

What I mean is, if you start installing LED fixtures or movers. Or even just colour scrollers or gobo rotators.

At such point when you have more than just dimmers, then HTP won't really work as a strategy. LTP and tracking will almost certainly come into play.

I don't know what tracking is like on Solution - maybe it's more awkward than on FLX. Prior to getting my FLX I ran a mile from tracking, but now it's just on by default. But then again now I have LED and movers in addition to generics so it's a bit of a "must" since I exploit move on dark a lot and sometimes overlay other playbacks or UDKs.

    Hm...we do...  😄

We often have several new groups performing in our theatre, so their technicians will not be used to working with the Solution desk. We want it to be as uncomplicated as possible for them.

In which case I can see HTP is more familiar to them!

But it will hamper you significantly if your install develops. It's a bit like tracking, before getting the FLX it was a nightmare...

  9. I don't think you can, sorry.

The banner at the bottom should have Next: in a yellow box and Current: in a green box if that helps you remember and to inform your other operators.

I had to get used to the green (grass) and blue (sky) for down and up fades - that's now the de-facto industry standard, but it wasn't the colours used on my previous consoles!

  10. Look, I know you boys have now got Neo and probably lots of other secret stuff to work on as well as ZerOS, but Christmas just isn't the same without an Advent Calendar 😉

    ...

    ...

Actually I don't care about the Advent Calendar, I just want the outtakes video - as long as you have falling scenery and Tyler again. 🥰

For those who don't know, we used to be treated to beauties like this (and yes I did just re-watch it instead of testing Edward's latest ZerOS beta 😆 ). I'll note we're still waiting for the feature with the drop down menu that drops the scenery!!!
